Interesting find in an interesting place. I've always thought that if reporting was actually unbiased so that only the truth was told as described in this article the world would be a better place. What if we merely enacted equal time legislation that forced both sides of a story to be told. I see no enfraction of 1st amendment rights in having to tell the truth when dealing with any story. As long as you tell a truthful story first you can then express your opinion of said story.

What if we merely enacted equal time legislation that forced both sides of a story to be told.

Compelling someone to speak violates the First Amendment just as much as forbidding them to speak.

Also, remember that liberals have been eager to see the return of "equal time" doctrines in order to kill conservative talk radio. Liberal talk radio doesn't sell, so the market won't support it. Force commercially-viable conservative airtime to be weighed down by equal shares of commercially-DOA liberal airtime -- and suddenly, conservative airtime is no longer worth it to broadcasters.

The "equal time" cure would be far worse than the liberal-bias disease.

The problem with a story like this is that it is preaching to us, the choir. The anti-guns will say that the marine should have been allowed to shotup the neighborhood until the cops got there because that's their job. What if the hero had decided to join in with the marine, thousands could have potentially died!!!! (sarcasm)
