    From Infowars.com '

Techdirt reports that Senate bill 978 – a bill to amend the criminal penalty provision for criminal infringement of a copyright, and for other purposes – may be used to prosecute people for embedding YouTube videos

» Embedding YouTube Videos May Soon Be a Felony Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!

There is a slant to this as the article states that it's a direct attack against the alternative media but, there is a link to the text of the bill.

This is not good for anyone if this passes, IMO.

Not sure how they could make it ex post facto...but sounds like it could be following in the footsteps of the Napster MP3 deal from a few years ago.

Doesn't Youtube help actually provide the code to allow its videos to be embedded though?

In one of the comments on the website: Youtube embeds automatically when you like to a video.

IANAL, but I am a journalism student, and in my General Media class, we went into detail about the rulings on this issue. The case history is that Youtube is not responsible for vetting copyrighted material. Youtube has to take down any material it receives a notice about. People who embed Youtube videos to blogs, forums, facebook etc... have the same caveat. Youtube(and by extension the embedder)'s responsibility for copyrighted material is 100% reactive, and 0% proactive.

The lawmakers seem to have a "pass laws first, check constitutionality later" approach to legislation, so it will probably pass.
