I attended my first NCOWS match today. It was a great deal of fun. It is much like a SASS match except the targets are farther away at times and smaller at times so it is more challenging and slower paced. It is a heck of a way to play cowboy and to use up 120 rounds of rifle/pistol ammo and a box of shotgun shells. The match was held east of Martinsville and is on the fourth Saturday of every month.

Like SASS, they use cowboy guns, but unlike SASS, the guns have to be authentic to shoot in sanctioned matches. Monthly matches are not sanctioned so they allow leeway on what type of guns are allowed. I recommend it to anyone that likes to have a three-gun tactical shoot, cowboy style. Basically, the matches require pistol caliber lever-action rifles and single action pistols. So, grandpas old 30-30 isn't allowed. Neither is jacketed or gas-checked bullets.

Their website doesn't have much information but they do have a map and a shoot schedule. Home
