For several years, I have been using older rifles and cartridges and hunting from the ground in Alabama. Things like a pre-war sporter 30-40 Krag, another Krag sporter in 35 Krag, a pre-war M1917 in 30-06... and this year, a 1920 Winchester '94 in 32 Special and a 45-110 Sharps. If in a more modern mood, I sit in a ground blind with perhaps a Steyr SSG in 308W or a custom 1909 Argentine in 35 Whelen AI.

I keep telling myself that I'll take my Lee Enfield or Mosin Nagant out, but I never do lol

44 mag mainly. Most shots I can’t see more than 75 yards where I normally hunt. if I need to go walk all day on a stalk or still hunt I will get out the TC contender carbine with 7-30 waters or 35 rem. Gives me a shot when they turn and stop about 150 yards out.

never really miss having quick follow ups using a single shot. They reload pretty fast if needed.

Do it! I became jaded over the years using elevated stands and modern rifles with nice optics. Now I mostly use older guns or handguns, both with iron sights. It definitely puts effort back into the hunt. (I have used my Garand also)

6.5 Creedmoor for edge of field & woods. Took 2 does this year in the woods with 300 Blackout, suppressed but shooting supers. Next year I'll hunt with subs in the woods, maybe my old man's 03A3 along the edges.

What 300 blackout sub load are you planning on using?

If I can find a factory load with good expansion at sub velocities, I'll try it. I've read good things about Hornady 170 & 190? grainers, I prefer to load my own so I can practice different distances. I shot some factory Rem 220 OTM after season ended and they were stupid quiet. Hope to duplicate that but with better expansion.

On a side note, I called a friend at Sierra when I bought the rifle a few years ago. He suggested their 150 flat nose they market for 30-30. Designed for good expansion at 30-30 and 300 Blackout velocities.

I found a K5 Blazer at 75 MPH to be a bit much.
Drove it home after, but pass tire was ruined due to alignment being messed up.
Too bad ol Indiana rust ate that rig up. 350/400 w PTO (never used that though).

The last 2 years I have hunted with a 6.5 Grendel in an AR platform with a Bear Creek Arms 20 inch upper and a supressor on the end. Before that I used a 7mm-08, and before rifles were legal I used my trusty 12 gauge 870.
