If a predator like a raptor, mink, or fox is well-fed, sometimes they'll only eat the liver, heart, and other tasty organs and either cache or leave the rest. I've seen rabbits left like that a few times. The head was probably pulled off first, to get it out of the way, maybe where the rabbit was killed.

hard to say for certain, as a few things will do that.

my guess is that a weasel did it - they like removing the heads of rabbits, chickens, etc and there’s no tracks in that soft ground around it suggesting a heavier predator

I'm gonna guess it was a mutant flying frogbat hell bent on ridding itself of plutonium poisoning by wiping his diarrhea off using a bear with a little bunny coconut in it's arse.

Found this next to the wood pile about 150 yards from the house.
There were tufts of hair all around....head was missing and right leg torn from the body.
My guess is a rator, probably an owl. No obvious tracks. The dogs have left a few over the last few days.

Just a guess of course, but some type of bird. They take the brains. Any type k-9 would have left a much larger kill scene and have eaten all the meat, if not have removed the carcass. If eaten on site fur would have been spread around for a couple yards. Just a few pics don’t allow for much better guesses. JMO

Pretty clever bunch, considering we live in fly over country!
