Depends on the plastic gun. Glocks, I'll pass. 1911 or M&P, now that's a hard choice.

I have owned several plastic guns over the years, most of them are ok. The first plastic gun I ever owned was a Ruger P95, I sold it. I have owned almost every variety of Glock, I sold them all. I still have some plastic guns, but I would trade any of them for something else. The one thing that all of my plastic guns have in common is, I never have remorse when I sell them. I have sold a few 1911s and a few other guns that I still regret selling, some I sold over 30 years ago, I still miss them.
I have nothing against plastic guns, I think they are great for carry, because of the weight and ergonomics. I own a S&W M&P 45 full size, I think that it is an excellent home defense gun or a nice truck gun. Of all of the plastic guns I've owned, the M&P, in my opinion, is the best. Everyone has an opinion about what they consider the "best" gun, and so do I, of the choice given I would choose the 1911, not because it is more accurate, or more reliable, or has better ergonomics, my choice is simply because it is "American iron" and I like American iron. (And YES, I'm aware not all 1911s are built in the US.)

I've had plastic guns and they were fine, really. I now own my series 70 Colt GI and the rest are S&W third gen steel. It works for me, ymmv.

Nothing else has quit the solid, particular, and timeless feel of a quality 1911.
Polymer guns are great and use newer technology in materials than 1911 but they are different. Not worse but different.
If I had to choose between one, my glock or 1911, I'd take the 1911.

Not a fan of a 1911( to large) or a Glock 45 (to plastic).
Mauser M2 45 compact just right.

Just out of curiosity.....did you read the manual before use? :D

    I'm no slave to fashion.

Is tacticool an offshoot (pun intended) of goth?

    1911, for almost 2 decades.

As for dropping guns, or extreme environment testing....... I'm not a soldier in some jungle, litterbox or arctic area.

I also don't drop my gun.

I have owned a 1911 before, but now my full size is a Browning HP. I started carrying a Kahr P9 and love the size and weight. I recently got a Charter Arms .38. It is kind of plastic and steel.

    i guess I like both.

The 1911 fits my hand like nothing else, but the Glock is the one more likely to leave the house with me. Just a case of reliability and function over form and elegance, I guess.

Gun-men buy guns that they like.

Last time I checked, 2009, GLOCK-brand is outselling 1911-types by 10-to-1. Plus in the over-100 year production run 1911-types have sold over 2,000,000 guns; GLOCK, in 25± years has sold nearly 7,000,000. Yes, there is something to be said for a design that has gone, for the most part, unchanged for 25 years and is still very popular today.
Lol, I tried that and now I own two 1911's and two Glocks. My love for the 1911 will never go away. There is something to be said for a design that has gone, for the most part, unchanged for 100 years and is still very popular today. <snip> There are limitations with every platform out there, you just have to choose what works for you.
Yup, and 7,000,000 gunners have! If polymer was good enough for the Stoner invention, it is good for me, too. Ignorants say "plastic" while real men know the value of "polymer."

that is nice statistics on 7000000 buyers which is a lot. and on a lot of the threads. alot of guys with 1911s have glocks and will easily part with them. i would like to see the stats for the m&p. the glock is a working mans gun and a tool. fairly inexpensive and reliable. the 1911 is a piece of history and a gun people cherish forever to pass down to there kids. something u kiss goodnight in case u have to wake him early

Im not sure about you but the glock is a piece of history, a gun I cherish and will pass down (have passed one to my younger brother) and kiss goodnight before bed. But I'm usually the weird one haha.

I think everyone should own a 1911, the same way everyone should own a muscle car at some point in their life. I carry a Glock because it's lighter, holds more rounds, is just as reliable as the 1911 (if not more-so), and I don't have to worry about dinging it up.

They sell a lot more Cavaliers than Corvettes too, just sayin :):

I love the feel of a 1911, but I also like revolvers too so maybe I am just an old school guy. I do have a couple plastic guns, I have an SR9c and its my favorite plastic gun I have shot. I am not fan of my wifes G19, truthfully there isnt much I do like about it. But she likes it and thats all that matters.

I tend to carry the SR9c more often, but my only 1911 right now is a full size railed all steel model that is pretty damn heavy lol. I have been on the search for a officer sized kimber or springfield, just need to find the right deal.
