I guess more than 1 or 2. When I visit Pops they might have one overpriced AK there but not much of a selection

Dave, When I was at the 1500 I checked out some local table and didn't see much of anything. Your best bet might be to find something online. That is where I'm looking for another AK.

I only have about 40 in stock.

Please help out a novice. (Meaning: I don't know ANYTHING about AK's)

    What is "upper" and "lower"?

A friend suggested I get an Ak with my "rebate" money, but I don't know anything about them.
I don't want to make an uninformed purchase.

Please help me decide if I should even seriously consider purchasing something like this.

Upper and lower usually are parts of and AR-15, the upper receiver with the barrel and lower receiver with the fire control group. Same with FALs. The AK receiver has both the barrel and fire control group installed in the one part, the receiver so really there is no such thing as an AK upper and lower unless you are talking about the front handguards. In that case there is an upper handguard and lower handguard.

You might want to check out the various AK forums on Gunsnet.net. Also check theakforums.net. They have an area that describes most of the current and past production AKs. There are a zillion variations, so don't be afraid to as a bunch of questions. That way you can make an informed decission before parting with your money.

Thank you for your help and the information. I had not really considered this type of gun before, so I hadn't investigated it.
(I live in IL and know that this type of gun would drive "Gov. Blago", Mayor Dailey, Obama, and friends absolutely NUTS! :): Even though they wouldn't know I had one (if I were to choose to get one), it's the personal idea of "Thumbing my nose at them" that I like. :lmfao:
