What is the deal with the 10/22 love fest?

I was considering to buy one, but I don't customize.

If that is the only purpose of the 10/22 love fest what would be an alternate to buy?

I prefer MADE IN THE USA

They are awesome shooters and inexpensive to feed. You do not need to get into the customization game.

Marlin model 60. I've heard some say they are more accurate than a stock 10-22. I've never owned one (I've got 10-22's) but I'd like to, especially the Marlin Mdl. 99 variant.

There are a lot of people who like them for a lot of reasons other than customization. I like mine for its squirrel getting prowess.

    North Dakota soon...
The Marlin 60 and 795 are more accurate and cheaper used and out-of-the-box. The Marlin 60 has been sold for one year long than the 10/22 but has been produced in numbers twice as large as the 10/22. The trigger in a Marlin is also very easy to make lighter.

I picked up a 10/22 on sale because I probably won't see them that cheap for quite awhile. I prefer my Remington 582 bolt action. From everything I've read, much more accurate out of the box.

I prefer the Model 60 for a general purpose 22. 10/22 is super modable, and has higher capacity mags/detachable mags going for it though.

yes but is ther a 14 rnd mag for a 10/22? even if there was it would be cumbersom.

Flush fit 10 round rotary mag, or 25 round mags are available. The 25 round mags make it no more cumbersome than any other detachable mag fed rifle (AR, AK, Galil etc.)

That model 60 is more pleasant to shoot at the range because dropping rounds in the tube is easier than loading up mags. However changing out loaded mags i much faster than dropping rounds in the tube. Just depends on your shooting style and persuasion. Also older Model 60s have 18 round capacities.

I like the flush fit mag.
Easy enough to do a trigger job or swap in a kit.
Walnut stock (esp DSP model) looks good.
Can change bbl if the factory one doesn't shoot good enough.

My first one, back in '78, shot very well, and was bone stock. The trigger wasn't the best but it was better than the few I got later (but those got Clark kits and became usable).

I have 2 that are stock, and one that i got carried away with, only thing left on it that was made by Ruger is the frame, and some of the bolt. I shot one in the 70's, and fell in love, killed hundreds of black birds. The cat's on the farm loved it to, and the birds.

If you want to BUILD a rifle - then 10/22 is absolutely the way to go. Heck, you can build a rifle and never have a single Ruger part in your hands.

If you want a "pretty" off the rack rifle, 10/22 is the way to go. There are myriad factory "looks" available.

If you want the absolute best off the rack accuracy from a .22 Semi auto - can't help you. But in Bolt actions, a CZ rifle is the bee's knees.

Honestly I have shot many 22 rifles and can say I have never ever had an inaccurate one. I had a Mossberg in the 50's (long term borrowed) that was clip fed with a scope. Provided many squirrel suppers. I owned a Remington in the late 50's - tube fed, it had an adjustable knob to set the recoil spring pressure - supposed to shoot semi-auto with 22 LR, 22 Long's (that didn't work too well). I have had a stevens - worked great, own a Marlin 60 now and one other (can't remember the model). Personally I like the Marlin 60 as well or better than any 22 on the market. I picked up mine from an individual, he had tried to sell it at a pawn shop and the guy offered him $20, he refused, I walked out behind him and bought it for $30, about 10 -15 years ago.

Like most have said. Model 60 marlin, or I've also had good luck with remington 597's. Cheap, detachable magazine and actual feels like a full size adult rifle. I know marlin 795, and mossberg 702 are cheap and accurate enough but they feel like a red rider bb gun in a 6' tall persons hands
