    .
Technically, per ATF definition, that is not a handgun.

    Ya -
In a truly free country, we could classify these how ever we wanted to.
Unfortunately, we don't live in one.

Rare, but they could be AOWs if the receivers were virgins. Think of the cool holster set up you could make.

Either way, I would pay money to watch someone fire one of those. I'll bring the popcorn.

Ok, just for fun and in the spirit of the OP, here are some numbers for some selected calibers.

The energy of each round is multiplied by the capacity of the firearm. Energy figures pulled from wikipedia for the load with the highest energy number (not the load I would typically recommend, btw).

Not sure how to format this nicely given INGOs limitations, so I just put a "-" in between the numbers which are:

    Caliber - Energy/rnd(J) - Capacity - Total payload (J):

    • 500S&W - 4,109 - 5 - 20,545
    • 460S&W - 3,912 - 5 - 19,560
    • 50 AE - 2,200 - 8 - 17,600
    • 10 mm - 1,040 - 16 - 16,640
    • 357 SIG - 832 - 16 - 13,312
    • 454Casull - 2,581 - 5 - 12,905
    • 44 mag - 2,078 - 6 - 12,468
    • 45 acp - 835 - 14 - 11,690
    • 9 mm - 632 - 18 - 11,376
    • 40S&W - 680 - 16 - 10,880
    • 357mag - 1,049 - 8 - 8,392

None of you are correct... there is a .950 JDJ pistol out there.... as far as I know that takes the cake

No such animal exists. I just spoke with JD on the phone and he stated there is no possibility of firing the 950JDJ from anything other than a rifle and only a dozen people have ever done that. He said he is the holder of the most powerful handgun in the world title with a McBros actioned, bolt action pistol carrying a 5 shot magazine and 18" barrel. He said the muzzle energy was still at 10,000 ft/lbs bring his total to 50k ft/lbs of energy.

Op, I know you asked about power, but just remember, you have to hit your target!! all the potential power in the magazine won't do any good if you can't
    put it on target!:ar15:

    Comes out of the box from CZ with a 27rd big stick, tuned for 9mm Major (124gr @ 1370fps) 516ft/lbs x 28 = 14,470 ft/lbs on board. :D

    Damn thats super sweet.

What if we limited the discussion to commercial ammo and practical carry guns? A Glock 21 with 230g +P ammo would pack 7154 ft/lbs of energy in 14 usable shots. That same frame on a Glock 20 with 1300 fps 180g HPs would pack 10816 ft/lbs of energy in 16 usable shots. Both of these would be when carrying Underwood ammo. I keep referring to Underwood because they have been known to publish accurate numbers for their ammo and it's easy data to get. Plus, they carry a lot of different stuff and it's commercially available.

Compare that to my Sig P238 which would have on tap 1428 ft/lbs of energy in 7 usable shots. An FN 5.7 would carry 5355 ft/lbs of energy in 21 useable increments.

For me, I find this stuff interesting because I think it speaks to what we argue about regularly on INGO. It's also looking at the gun as a whole instead of by just caliber or capacity. I don't pretend to know what's the best gun out there, but just like looking at the stats in comparison.

The caliber on this is 1.1" (28mm).

But I like this one (as previously posted by Hoosierdaddy1976, but my picture is better):

The 460 Rowland puts out about 1038 per round and it holds 13 in a Glock 21 frame. That is a total of 13500 per mag.

It may not be the winner but that still is a lot of power in a small package.
