I recently bought an 870 Police, and found this hot glued to the inside of the stock body. Its a police trade in, and I figure its some sort of RFID for the department that issued out the gun but I thought I'd see what you guys think.

You would need an ISO microchip scanner. It's not a tracking device.

It's like if you found a lost dog and took it to a shelter, they would scan for an ISO chip. If it had one, they could find the owners info registered in the data base and contact them.

I'd still prefer not to have it in my gun though...

hey Tradertator if you get bored stop in at my work (the vet hospital) and we can see if my scanner will pick up the #, the scanner says it will pick up 134kHz, 128kHz and 125kHz chips

no worries, ould most likely have just been a number anyway , but maybe could have narrowed it down to an officer or dept

perhaps, but the animal ones also are waterproof and a protective coating that keeps the body from breaking them down ...... but maybe "shockproof" is not part of that equation
