I recently bought an 870 Police, and found this hot glued to the inside of the stock body. Its a police trade in, and I figure its some sort of RFID for the department that issued out the gun but I thought I'd see what you guys think.

Sweet . Not a bad idea. Can you track it, or is it something you would need to have in hand to scan?

You would need an ISO microchip scanner. It's not a tracking device.

It's like if you found a lost dog and took it to a shelter, they would scan for an ISO chip. If it had one, they could find the owners info registered in the data base and contact them.

I'd still prefer not to have it in my gun though...:tinfoil:

i guess its just a #, so nothing important stored on there.......
was looking these up, you can buy them for $140 , yet nearly the exact same thing for a pet is less than $30-40 ....... odd

Perhaps being "shock proof" would be a part of the higher cost? :dunno:
