    They are in fact 2 different barrels. The handguards are actually the same on both. The $399 upper has a Magnet Partical Inspected and High Pressure Tested barrel and the other does not.

    So, does that mean they are the same, but one goes through an extra inspection and testing process?

    Yes, that's exactly what it means. Most barrels and other part like the bolt are batch tested. This mean they randomly pull parts from each batch to test. MPI/HPT parts have each gone through these tests/inspections.

    so they are the same i suppose. I got the reply after i ordered the $399 upper, but i guess i did good anyway :ar15:
