Last week. My FD was assisting the PD looking for a missing child. Discussing, planning and setting up a grid search with a Garman or Tom Tom was not working. I walked to my command car, came back, and laid out a real life city street map on the hood of the police cruiser and we could all see what we needed to do. Planning became a breeze. Additional: The missing girl was safely found - she went with a friend (on the wrong bus) to the Boys & Girls Club.

Used a real map today. I have an IN atlas on my desk. Really helps when I have a picture of an area on one computer screen and using mapping software on the second screen. The paper map allows me to look up the location for planning and scheduling the the work crews.
