Hey all. Would you choose a weatherby vanguard series 2 stainless or a Remington 700 in 30-06? Why? Thanks!
Just a guess here. I have a Rem 700 in 30-06 and really like it. The Weatherby might be better, but how much $$$$ do you have to spend to go from good to better?:dunno:

The weatherby is a lil better deal for yer dough. The prob i have always had with remingtons is their bolt design, i just dont like it, but the guns thy make are just fine. If their pretty much the same, grab the one with the barrel length u like, most come in 22" lnth, but some come in 24" for that last extra 50fps, heh.

HUH? :dunno: The 700's are well known...for their bolts and smooth operation.

Weatherbys dont hold a candle to the 700's and have never.

    GET THE 700!

The newer Remington 700s are nice and so are the newer Weatherbys but neither hold a candle to a 1970's early 80's manufacture Remington 700 ADL or BDL in very good condition as far as smoothness of the action, quality of build, wood finishing and most of all accuracy. Look around for a very good condition wood stocked 700 like this and you will be a happy camper. Mine is a great shooter and a beautiful classic rifle in .30-06.

If you are just going to shoot it, buy whichever one feels the best to you. If you are going to hot rod it, go with the remington. They are a lot easier to find upgraded triggers, stocks, etc. If you want to get better than that, find a Winchester model 70, especially one of the old varmint models.

My vote goes for the Remington 700. I am a little biased because my favorite rifle is my 7mag Remington 700 CDL. The bolt design has been used and proven to be reliable and smooth and the overall look of a 700 in walnut stock is nothing short of Classic. Great Rifle and I would recommend one to anybody!

I use Remington 740 in 30.06. I also have a few 742 and a new 750 in 30.06. It has always been a one shot one kill with any of them. My 740 I use all the time was made in 1955 and shoots perfect. These are the semi auto guns, not the bolt or pump actions.
