I've probably shot more game with a 270 than any other centerfire cartridge. Have a heavier Remington and a lighter weight Winchester. I have never owned a 30-06.
Having said that, I only know one other person that actively uses a 270 and know probably four or five guys that use a 30-06 every year.
I'd have to think the 30-06 is still more popular.
