Which of these 4 for nightstand duty?

Colt 1911 5" Govt Model

Springfield XD9 subcompact

Ruger Blackhawk 4 5/8" in 45 Colt

No night sights , but I can put a light or a lazer on the XD9.

With those choices for home defense I'd go with 1911. Longer barrel, more accurate than the XD. Easier to reload than a revolver.

I'm partial to 1911s, so that would be my choice in the absence of one of them carrying night sights. I practice enough with it and it points naturally enough for me that I could get by with seeing the sights at reasonably close range. If you haven't ever tried to pick up a pistol in the middle of the night and acquire the sights, you ought to give it a try. I'd still put a flashlight next to the 1911 on the nightstand, though.
