This guy! Okay this is my first pipe. I got the basics form the owner at Riegels in Ft. Wayne. Any tips on keeping it lit? I know I'm missing something. I have to keep puffing for it to stay lit. Any general need to knows, nice to knows? A good flavored tobacco? I like good smelling sweet flavors in my cigars if that helps.

I picked up a pipe and I've got some cherry and I think whiskey or rum...I didn't mark one bag for some reason. The cherry smells amazing. I still prefer a good cigar though.

I enjoy my pipe most when camping. That is the only thing I smoke. Ill take the smell of pipe over cigar any day of the week and twice on Sunday. lol

I smoked a pipe for years. Learning to pack the bowl takes time and practice. Not too tight and not too loose.

Expect relights if you lay it down for any time.

Carry something to tamp your pipe with you. Many different tools or objects for this. This will also help it stay lit.

I enjoyed the milder darker tobaccos myself. I used mostly custom blends but the one I liked the best on the market was Captain Black in the white package.

I smoked a pipe for over 20 years before hanging it up. I really loved the custom blends with no added scent.
I always considered those guys with a special tamping tool to be wusses. just suck it up and use your finger tip was my attitude! Sure, it's a little hot, but a real man can handle it.
As far as keeping it lit...don't worry about it...you'll learn.
    Enjoy!

I'm enjoying it so far. For the record it's a wooden pipe, not going to be Whacky tobaccy in this one. Never touched (well touch/confiscated and flushed) but never smoked.
