I don't think Winchester made an 1894 in 44-40, plenty of 1892s and 1873s in that caliber though. I think what he has is a 1892 and those are good to go with smokeless. Older 1873s are typically where you run into issues with using smokeless.

Showing my age here, I've never seen the 94 AE. Looks like the 1892 and 1894 were condensed into one rifle. No reason something that new would have an issue with smokeless ammo.

That looks like a fun day!!!
It was exciting, I did a stalk. Had 8 rounds of my reloads. And fired all 8...he was running downhill. I hit him on my first shot and 2 of the next 7. He disappeared at the bottom. Of the hill in a small creek. As I was heading downhill, another boar, twice this one's size appeared. Luckily he didn't charge, as I was out of ammo.

    Winchester 9422 .22wmr
    and a Henry Evil Roy

I've loved the way they look since the late 70's!
Started with the Red Ryder and then moved up to my Dad's Ithica 49.

i did a stalk hunt on pigs in south GA. would never get on the ground with pigs unless a semi auto or lever action.
low scrub. they are fast. sow took a misplaced 30-06 (not my shot) and treed our guide.
bolt action = single shot on the ground with pigs
