Huge over-reaction to some schmuck trying to sell some junk beef. Do they start pulling out the shotguns and body armor when they see the lawn care guy coming??

I hope your wife or girlfriend or even you would have the presence of mind to be able to tell when somthing or someone, "just don't feel right".

The OP stated that people with no ill intentions do not set off the dog's fight sense. This man did. His wife felt uneasy, the dog felt uneasy and both went into attack mode. Over reaction, or did they just prevent a robbery or worse? Thankfully we may never know.

    OP your wife did good.

    WHAT TOTAL :poop:!

I'm a 6' 2," 225 lbs. man and if he wasn't leaving after the THIRD time I told him to, he would have been looking down the muzzle of my constant carry.
Seriously, what part of "No Trespassing" and "leave my property" is hard to understand?

He's lucky he didn't get ventilated and chewed.

Since Mom was flying off the handle, the dog can tell she is tense and that is what triggers a dogs fight instinct. If there were no over reaction the dog probably wouldn't have acted like that. I realize those garbage meat salesmen are slime balls, but from my interpretation of what went down it was blown WAY out of proportion.
When those meat salesmen come to my door I let them give me the whole BS sales pitch. They open a case of the meat and spread it out and show me how "great" it looks. Then I tell them there is no way I'd ever buy that garbage and shut the door on them. That's all it takes and you really get to tick them off for wasting their time. As a bonus, they don't come back! But I guess threatening to shoot them would work, too. If that's how you handle that kind of thing.

What part of a no trespassing sign do you not under stand???

Then continues to advance after being told to leave.:dunno:

Not a huge over reaction, it was the right reaction.

We have a no solicitors/no trespassing without approval sign that we printed off and attached to the inside of our locked storm door that is about 4x7 inches and is between eye level and the door bell.

Kids of my neighbors and their parents, I don't mind, we watch our backs. But not from our neighborhood and adults that pay no attention to that sign, get my wrath.

I have on more than one occasion had to open the door and escort sales people off the property while advising them that they will never get another warning.

I'd love to put this up, but add "by the dogs"

This is horse :poop: like I said I know in Roselawn there are people selling meat out of a truck, and going back and robbing the people after seeing what they have. If you tell someone to leave three times and they dont, thats a problem.

In the few weeks I have been here on INGO, it has helped me more clearly see the line between "firearms enthusiast" and "gun nut (in the liberal sense)."

1 ) He ignored No Trespassing signs
    2) He continued towards her after being told to leave 3 times (no means no)
    3) Became verbally aggressive & called her a B**** ( in so many words & was insinuated)
    4) Dog did not like him
All kinds of red flags here saying this guy was scoping the place or up to no good ,I think it was handled well & could have ended up worse for the trespasser.

I am in no sense of the word a nut. I am a man with a family that would do anything it takes to defend them. My grandmother is 88 years old and lives in a rual comunity. A few years back her house was burned down and is still an unsolved case of suspected arson. Thank god she was at the church at the time dropping off canned goods for the food drive. A few days after the fire a car full of young men were sighted on my grandmothers property. They were told to leave by neighbors and the police were notified. No charges were ever filed.

If I had been there and an unknown vehicle pulled down the driveway and the driver refused to leave after I told them to get off the property I would've respond similarly to the OP. And maybe I could've prevented my grandmother's house being burned down because some punks thought it would be fun to wreck an old woman's life.

If you think we are a bunch of looney "gun nuts" maybe INGO isnt the place for you. I here the Huffington Post has a nice forum sight, you could spend your time there agreeing with them if you like.

so you panic over a guy trying to sell beef? The description sounds like a guy who does this In our local area, he can be annoying but I'm sure all that had to be done was offer to call the police if he refuses to leave.

I didn't read any "panic" into this post at all. IF the guy was a real salesman, he certainly disregarded the "NO TRESPASSING" sign, ignored the lady's orders to stay back from her and her child and continued to confront her. Try doing that to a LEO and see what happens! I certainly wouldn't want my wife waiting several minutes for a LEO to show up. I think she handled it very well.

To answer your questions: No. And, to make holes paper. :runaway:

Is there more to the difference between a "firearm enthusiast" and a "gun nut" than not carrying and target shooting?
Would a "firearm enthusiast" never think of using a firearm for self defense?
    Please elaborate.
