What things have you noticed have been changed? I make frequent trips downtown and have noticed some interesting things. Some started last summer.

If any of you have been to DC in the last few years, some of the items in plain sight have shown up around Indy. I've spotted at least two trucks with what looks like the systems put on trucks to stop IED's from working.

I was looking at a new thing that showed up one night trying to figure out what it did on the sidewalk but gave up. It did have a marking on it that made me laugh. I left my drink on top of it and some nice guy had it removed before I got back to my car.

FEDs/ DHS? ??? get an F for a crappy job hiding the control center. However if something really bad happens they can get out of dodge in a hurry. I can factor that into the plan.

I like the secured man hole covers! I still am trying to figure out some other things that have been installed, but until the event, I don't have a clue what they do.

Please don't post pictures or locations. Just share your observations.

    Where's the bacon?
A bunch of years ago (pre-9/11), the KKK had a rally in Lafayette. I'm not sure of everything that was done, but I know there was chain link fencing down the streets around the courthouse. I heard there were snipers on the rooftops, and that the manhole covers were welded shut. I don't know how much of that is true, other than the fences down the streets, but whatever they did there, you can bet it's only the tip of the iceberg of what will be done any place where millions of people will gather, including the important (read: rich, powerful) ones. This is even more true now that such a thing as the DHS exists.

I'd almost forgotten about that! I was so floored that such an organization like that really existed, being straight here from CA, I thought the KKK was a group invented by Hollywood. I was very sheltered by my parents, and it's amazing what I did and didn't believe in, and just how little I knew!

I remember that I wanted to take my 35mm camera to downtown to take pictures of these guys in their "sheets and pointy hoods", to send to my friends back in CA to prove that they really existed, and weren't just a side note in one of the "Porkys" movies! I told some of my friends out there about them, and they almost accused me of lying about it. They didn't know they really existed either! The Black Panthers....yes.....the KKK.....had to be some type of hoax! I also remember that you wouldn't even let me out of the house that day, you knew how determined I was to go down and take some snapshots of what was going on. I was relatively young and stupid, and believe me when I tell you that it's a whole different world out there on the West Coast.

Years have come and gone since that day, and I've learned a lot of what I didn't know was really based in fact, not fiction. I'm not sure what's sadder, how blissfully, ignorantly happy I was then, or just how bad the world was, and how much worse it's gotten since then! I don't mean to sound trite, but give me back the 50's when I was growing up. Life was so much simpler back then, we knew and were friends with all our neighbors, could count on not only our friends to help us, but complete strangers as well, didn't bother to lock our doors and window's at night, and thought the world was just one big party, all for our own amusement and entertainment. I even remember the days back when the casinos in Lake Tahoe were actually nice places, granted they were run by "mobsters", but even the mobsters had morals and scruples.

I remember being there once with my parents and some other family members, and a man had gambled away his entire months salary trying to "win the big one"! He was destitute at that point, with no way home, no where to stay, no way to feed himself, and no home to go back to, since he'd also lost the mtg payment on his home in the process. Bill Harrah heard about it, and sent 2 of his men down to collect the guy, who was devastated and in tears. He was taken up to the executive office, and met personally with Mr. Harrah. Who then gave the man back all his money, and put him in one of his own cars and had one of the employees drive him back home to Sacramento. He extracted (nicely) a promise from the man that a reoccurrence of this loss would never happen again. He gave the man a lecture on the value of family and friends, and what should and shouldn't come first in his life. From what I understand, the man learned his lesson, and it never did happen again.

Humanity, a mans Word, Honor, and basic Honesty and Loyalty were valued back then, and even tho these men running the casinos were actually more than likely killers in their own right, they still showed a sense of kindness and responsibility towards their fellow man. Joe Public was just that, an "average Joe", who worked for a living, was able to put money aside to take care of his family in later years, owned their own home, paid cash for what they bought, and generally "lived within their means". Sure, there were rich people, but not in the way there is now, a dollar was worth just that, a dollar, and you earned a decent days pay for a decent days work. You wore a hat to church on Sunday, didn't swear in front of your wife and children, most were faithful to their spouses and the divorce rate was almost nonexistent.

Schools taught "the 3 R's," and children got an education regarding world and business matters. Discipline and morals were left to the parents to teach to their young, and the Government didn't interfere anywhere close to how they do now. The FBI had just been founded, the term "G-Man" struck fear into the hearts of criminals, and "Family Matters" were left to be dealt with between the "Families", without drive by shootings that happened "just for fun". The Police had authority, and <GASP!> most guns, especially hand guns, were completely legal! As well as you didn't need a pink piece of paper to own, carry or use one. That was a right guaranteed by the Constitution, and not even the Cosa Nostra dared disrespect "the American way".

Then came the late 60's and the 70's, and things started to change. Instant wealth became a way of life, prices of things shot thru the roof, the Government grew at an alarming rate, and the Constitution became "just a piece of paper", to be manipulated in a manner that gave the existing Government more and more power. Gun bans entered the picture, families were torn apart by war and drugs, and the entire country changed for the worse. Lies were considered acceptable, as long as they benefited the wealthy or the government, and laws, laws and more laws came into being, to control the American People like the Sheeple that they'd become by being coddled, pacified and pampered by parents who'd survived "The Great Depression". From there on down, the "Road to Perdition" was an actual thing, not the title of a Tom Hanks movie. I was still in High School in the early 70's, and altho it was the tail end of an era, at least in the Private sector, actual subjects were taught, including "Home Ec", typing on a manual typewriter, math was still done by long hand, people wrote in full sentences, and the English language was still the form of speech you used if you wanted to be understood. Spanish was a foreign language you learned in school, not something you needed in every day life, the same applied to French, Latin, German and a few others. Instructions came in English ONLY, not 57 pages of instructions, in every language known to mankind, just so you can operate your toaster!

Computers were just entering the picture, they took up enormous, climate controlled rooms, and spit out cards of binary code, that almost no one could or did understand. The PC hadn't even been thought of, let alone communication all around the world, at the push of a button. And a Web was something a Spider wove to catch flies! Even gasoline was considered expensive if it topped out at .60 cents a gallon! What is it now? Between $3 and $4 dollars? The moon was something that young lovers gazed up at from the seats of their cars, while parked on a hill top, a kiss was risking your valued reputation, Friends with Benefits meant you were nothing more than loose and easy. Something that all girls dreaded being called! Women valued their reputations back then, now they keep track of how many partners they've had on their wireless 4G Cellular Phone. Aka: your cell phone, don't leave home without it!

Which brings us to where we are now. I've left a lot out, but basically covered the finer points of life in these United States. Gone are the carefree, stress free, days where you could sit under a tree and enjoy the view. Where it used to be you could take a moonlit walk by the park and maybe steal a kiss or two, not need to carry your own personal self defense weapon, or face being raped! All we used to need was a good, loudly barking dog to keep robbers away from your home, now a computer, miles away, monitoring your homes every creak and groan, and sounding an alarm before you're even awake enough to realize that someone has broken in to rob and possibly kill you, so you'd better grab the kids and your gun, and seek shelter in your specially designed "panic room", with a steel door 3 feet thick slams shut behind you, protecting you from what the world has become, not from what it was.

Maybe Alzheimer's patients don't have it so bad, they can usually remember bits and pieces of the past, what world we live in now is hardly worth a footnote in a History Book, let alone remembering all the horrors that we've so stupidly and blindly created, in order "to speed and automate life's little pleasures". Just think, you can even have Comcast wired into the panic room, so you don't miss the next episode of your favorite "TV Reality Show"!

Honestly, if you really had a choice between then and now.....which would you choose, and what would you give up to live in a totally Free America, where people care for and about each other. Not just about what your neighbors have that you don't, and how can you made a "deal" to get one. They should have a self help group for Millionaires and large superpower countries, 1 Million is to many, but 360 Trillion is never enough!

Think about it. Or not, after all, when the dust settles, it really is rather depressing what we've evolved into, from the happy, healthy and loving group of people we used to be. The past is just that, past, and the future, if you take a long, hard and honest look at it, can be rather depressing. Just how far down does the hole that we've dug for ourselves go? I don't think I really want to know.

Back Scanners are going to be used if you want to get in the game..............

The mobile xray and bomb detector is in use for trucks getting close/inside the the building.

Noticed several of the portable eye/ face scanner things, but didn't see them being used. If you get detained there is a good chance you will be checked out or imaged with them.

Caught a glimpse of a thermal camera feed scanning for whatever.

Lots of toys are in town at the moment.

Anyone notice strange cell phone power readings as you move around the outdoor events? Was talking with a tech and he told me if a problem happens, everyone could get a text message giving instructions. The thing that I though was funny was the database they have of "what cell phones" are in the area. Nothing bad, just very interesting on how advanced it is.

This is the kicker, they are messing with a system to track the flow of cell phone pings to see the waves of people in motion in and around the event. Picture looking out a tall building at night and seeing headlights in motion, but on a computer screen. This system has interesting uses and some I like and others I don't.

If you want to see some excitement, toss a working pay as you go cell phone in the trash and see what happens.

That is quite ingenious, really. I would assume algorithms used in traffic modeling can be adapted for crowd flow. I bet Disney World has something like this.[/QUOTE]

Cell phones "register" themselves with the tower so they know where to send a call if you get one. They don't need a database as such, the system just has your location. In fact, at minimum, they have it within 30ft so 911 can work. They do that by reading your signal strength at the nearest three towers and triangulating. Anyway, it's not some sinister new feature, more of a sinister old feature.

There are also portable radiation detectors being used. Passive right now, but they have hand-held active scanners that can/will be used also.

I think it would be somewhat "telling" to mess with them a little.... like sprinkle some "fertilizer" residue in odd places... throw pay as you go phones in the trash... things like that... just to gather some intel on what they're monitoring ...

Probably a good thing I'm very far away from there and will be for a while... :D

I saw a short video of that one the news the other night - a bunch of green dots funneling through an entry way. I wondered what technology was behind that.

Actually, what you saw was a computer simulation of an evacuation of LOS in the event of an emergency. Those dots were people.
