It's really nothing new. This type of theft has been going on for as long as there have been digital pictures on hard drives and computer technicians. I've had friends in the repair industries that made a habit of looking through people pictures to see what was what. The sheer numbers of nude pics they used to find was staggering. This isn't even the first time that the BB techs have been caught and made the news. It's commonplace. If you don't want your nekkid pics taken then keep them off the hard drive when you take them in to a technicians shop.

Oh yes, the photos were taken for an "art project", ri-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-ght! I'm sure they were tastefully done, if you ignore the beer bottles in the background.

On the peer-to-peer file sharing networks people used to use mostly for mp3 piracy, they'd let the p2p software find and list all their media, including pictures. I'm sure there are similar things now. Any ne'er-do-well on the intarwebs could find their pictures, however private.

Good luck to removing them after your computer will no longer boot up, unless you can take the HDD out and hook it up to another computer to do some clean up. If you have to have questionable pics, keep them on a thumb drive and encrypt them with a password.

Does BB also pull SSNs, DOBs, and other personal information and post it?

It's not their property. They have a bailment to service the computer, and that doesn't give them a license to distribute everything they find on the drive.

    No they don't post it.

I don't know if they pull those when they find them, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me if some techs didn't. There's a market for identity info out there. Pics they do for the thrill and the porn-iness of it.

Right. It's not their property. But some people are dishonest.
You don't leave 20 dollars laying there and wonder whyn someone took it.
So you don't leave private info out.

My private info is on a flash drive, with a flash drive for backup.

This. Absolutely this. Anything you don't want everybody to see ... keep it on a thumb drive or a SD card or something. DO NOT keep it on your computer, or your phone, or your tablet, or whatever the **** you have. Keep it separate.

Of course, if they find something illegitimate, they'll happily turn you in to the police to no complaints. Ask Gary Glitter.
