did any else wonder what the heck a "work ethnic" is??

I think it's the genes I suddenly inherited from my dad when he said that he'd put a boot in my keister if I didn't get to work.

I would like to see how true this is... But what the article is saying wouldn't surprise me at all!

“If they cut down their hours to stay on those subsidies because the $15 per hour minimum wage didn’t actually help get them out of poverty, all you’ve done is put a burden on the business and given false hope to a lot of people,” said KIRO-FM’s Jason Rantz said this week.

I guess it's on to the battle for $20 or maybe $25?

Some on the left would try to say that "everybody" wants to strive to do better in life, and "nobody" wants to settle for "lowest common denominator" subsistence from the government. Obama himself has said it. But common experience just does not bear that out. When you put a guaranteed floor under people at public expense, you induce many of them to live their lives on that floor. Some European countries are experimenting with this on a deeper scale. I would suggest we wait for the results of those Frankenstein experiments and see if it comports with our view of our country, before we purposely turn larger and larger sections of America into that.

BBI, while I usually respect your opinion and posts, you have been one of the biggest proponents of socialized pay. God forbid, you give up your comfy .gov salary, mortgage your home a second time, and start paying into the system. Quit your job tomorrow, start a business, and then come back here and post about "living wage", and if I can't afford to pay it, I shouldn't be in business! It will open your eyes, hell, just try to build something on your own, look into permits and fees, then give everybody hanging out with you $15 an hour, but take away their "entitled bennies", see who shows up for work tomorrow?!

Predictable response...already tried it, Government blew him out of the water with competition from immigrant Visas...so rather than attack destructive immigration policies...effit, $15 for everybody. Old INGO history.

People on welfare that ask for less work hours are obviously doing well enough they no longer need to be on welfare. The Employers should be able to submit a form to have them taken off welfare.

Sounds like a good idea to me. We all know, that it would take months for the welfare dept. to follow up on said form, by then the worker will probably quit his/her job all together to make sure they stay on the system.

There are now more people in America voting for their income than working for it. No economy, no society, can long endure such a fiscal and ethical disaster.

You don't have to agree with me on everything, I'm ok with that. I doubt I quit my job, but I also don't think that's a requirement to have or express an opinion. Yes, I believe in a minimum wage, work place safety regulations, overtime requirements, and a whole host of "socialist" beliefs. I've explained my logic and experiences ad nauseum elsewhere, you can read the distilled snarky version attributed to me here or search it out on the forum, but its well trodden ground that I have no interest in going over again.
