Hey guys, i currently have a 1998 Yamaha yzf600r and was thinking of upgrading to a newer R6 probably 2006 or newer. Anyone ever had one of these? If so what did you think of it? Any pros or cons would be good! Thanks

There are a million reviews and comparisons out there you can check out to get others' thoughts on the bike. Here are a couple of mine.

The fuel injection on the newer models is very nice. It feels smoother.
Handles well enough. I've been spoiled with a Buell XB so most other bikes feel pretty meh.
    They look and sound great.
Feels more confortable? Not sure how to explain it but I can ride on one longer than I can on other crotch rockets.

Ah, I've had two R6's (You're bringing back precious memories).

I had an '02 (carbed) and an '03 (fuel injected). Loved both of them and regret selling them. They are by far the most uncomfortable sportbike I have ever ridden and you sit quite high but then again they are extremely nibble and quick. After a day of riding 8+ hours, you will feel it but it wasn't made for comfort. I prefer gsxr/cbr seating.

I never had any time of problems with mine. Did all the upgrades and maintenance myself. I had a friend with an '07 and he never had any problems with his. My next bike will most likely be a cruiser but if I were to buy a sportbike again I'd go into the liter class!

Watch out for the early 06's I think it was. It was the first generation to have a "fly-by-wire" throttle rather than traditional cables. Yamaha has a recall on them bc they had a tendency to fail. Thankfullly the ECU is programed to reduce power if a faliure occurs. Yamaha has since fixed the problem but Im not a fan of useless electronics on bikes.

The newer ones and 06's that have had the recall should be GTG. Great bikes.

It shouldnt be a problem anymore. All the 06's in the wild should have been fixed by now. But you never know, I just yesturday did a recall on a 98 Kawasaki Prarie 650, that was issued in 98.

Im not sure on Yamaha but on Kawasaki if you preform the recall they tell you to put a punch mark infront of the VIN number. Not sure if this will apply but it never hurts to check. Look for a small punch mark, like from a dot punch, infront of the VIN on 06's. All newer ones should be GTG.
