Why doesn't one person tell me one good reason why it is necessary for any members of the military to participate in a civilian raid?

"It's the Air Force's stuff!" is not a good enough reason to head down a potentially slippery slope. Law enforcement routinely recovers stolen property. It has never been necessary for the owners to be present during the raid.

Maybe that's not what happened in this instance. Nobody seems to know yet. But in general, why would it ever be a good idea?

I think its a little belittling actual troops to describe 1811 civilian federal DOD agents as "members of the militaty"

You REALLY need to educate yourself with the Posse Comitatus Act...
Cause there are LOTS of things I am allowed to do as a Servicemember inside of the USA... ;)
Now you went and did it Trooper

There is no reason that Fedzilla needs to be involved with lost children either.

Tell Polly Klass that. Oh, that's right. You can't. She was killed by a perpetrator that got his car stuck 500 feet into a neighboring county. He was approached by deputies (who helped push him out) who knew nothing about the abduction because there was no ability to communicate across jurisdictions.

Every once in a while willful ignorance is better described as stupidity.

Your Local Deputy should have little trouble being able to find the lost or kidnapped child in another State or Country...

I think county sheriffs, or state governments could collaborate just fine. We don't need the Feds as much as you believe.

But everyone's definition of small government is different. Clearly.

If only we had some sort of Big Government bureaucracy to turn to.

The kind that makes everything more efficient.

Then Polly Klass would have been rescued by a bureaucrat on a Federal unicorn.

Trust me I have a very firm grasp of how little we actually need the Federal Government. However, I am not delusional either. Reality sucks and yes we do need some of the Federal Agencies to survive....

    ... but there are some...

there are bad apples in every career/group on earth. As I stated that is what each Department has there own Office of Investigation General. They are the internal affairs of the FED's. Anyone can call OIG and file a complaint (even a federal inmate) and OIG will do a little fact finding to see if an investigation is warrented. That is what keeps the worker bee agents in line. As far as off the hook leadcership that is what congress is suppose to be for.

    Your right...

Absolutely! Everyone notices how well that's worked out for I.U. students the past 10 years or so.

Perhaps folks might recall the concept of "inter-jurisdictional-cooperation". It doesn't work as well as it should in many places, but it's how serial murders and cross-state kidnappings and other crimes get solved.
