I know everyone hates the conceal carry badge, but what about an Open Carry Badge?

    :D

I don't know about building inspectors, but
a buddy of mine used to own a convenience store, and there was a little skinny dude that would pop in every few months to inspect the eggs and milk. He would walk in with his chest all puffed out, and flash some silly ID/badge thingy that some useless government agency had issued him, and I mean he'd whip out the wallet and snap it open and show it to whoever happened to be standing nearby. You would have thought this guy was there to investigate a murder or something. We would try to joke with the guy but he would have none of it, just serious business, serious like Barney Fife. We got to the point where we would laugh our asses off when he came in. That dude had some serious issues! CCW badge, egg inspector badge, whatever, give somebody a badge and the douchebaggery level just seems to skyrocket.

Wow.....saw a guy in merriville the other day with one of these badges in a restaurant that seemed to have his chest puffed out pretty far along with his gun on his belt

Everyone who keeps an "active shooter bag" in their trunk should have one of these in it for when they gear up to go be Hardass McAwesome during a shooting. That way, when they go in guns a blazin' and the SWAT teams shows up after they single-handedly ice the bad guy(s), they can quickly be identified as NOT the guy who just shot a building full of people.

In all seriousness, most things have pros and cons, and this one has just too many cons for a CC'er. I mean, MAYBE the cops could show up in the middle of you having your weapon out, but as soon as the shooting stops, you need to have your gun back to being concealed and have your phone out getting the police on their way. So you don't need it before the shooting, you certainly aren't going to have time to get it out before or during the shooting, and if you put your gun back away like you should, you aren't going to need it after the shooting. The OC crowd may find it a better idea to carry one to help backpedal out of the inevitable situation they are creating, but I am on board with the "not for me" crowd.

Besides, my IERT badge keeps me covered :)

And just like that, you have given me my new custom user title.

I've been thinking about these for a while. Badges that resemble a law enforcement officer's, that say something to the effect of "Concealed Carry Permit".

Now first of all I am curious as to how many, if any, people use these and with what reasoning. I read on many forums that these are usually frowned upon and unnecessary.

I guess my opinion is that they are worthless. If you are CCing, then no one should be aware of it anyways. If you are OCing, then you shouldn't flash a badge around, I think it would actually attract more attention then you want.

If I am in a situation where I have to defend myself, I see no reason to need a badge to show law enforcement. I would be the one to contact the authorities and I wouldn't need to show a badge to begin with. I would not have my weapon drawn while in the presence of an officer and I most certainly keep my hands empty. I mean, after a shooting officers will be on edge. Don't do anything that might make their jobs more difficult.

Tell me what you all think. I want to hear from those who carry and if it has ever had a positive effect on any situation.

Didn't John Wayne Gacy carry fake badges? Just saying......
