If I wasn't selected, I would have even considered enlisting and *then* trying to become an officer. I know that enlisted men in every branch often prefer such officers, but it was a backup plan.

    WE DO!

Either way though I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck on your path, I'm a ground guy, but I've heard getting in the air can be a tough road. Stay motivated!

Never forget one thing ... 0311 is what the Corps is all about, everything else is just support!

I don't mean that in a bad way (I was not an 03xx). In the air, on the ground, or at sea ... all Marines are there to support the grunt kicking in the door or leading the charge.

    Congrats and Semper Fi

Good luck....Army would have been a better choice, but I am a little bias!

Haha, yeah you are. We can't all be Army Strong ;)

    GOOD LUCK!!!!

    To things I dislike through...
    1.) Marines...
    2.) Officers...

    LOL!

Oh boy! And here I thought we were going to be friends when we met!

    That's outstanding... Semper Fi

    Oorah. Semper Fi.

Oh I know! But thankfully you still call all of them "sir!" Haha.

My contract is for 8 years, and those 8 years start AFTER I finish 3 years in flight school. Add in OCS and TBS, and we're talking well over 11 years minimum (assuming I successfully complete OCS, of course). Yeah, it won't be an easy road, but it's going to have some great high points that will make the low ones worthwhile!

    Definitely!

Tried to add on to what you said, but I couldn't say it any better myself.

Question, you will carry a side arm will you not. What are they carring these days?

I know I'll be using an M16A2 while I'm at OCS. One of the candidates at the top of the class gets to carry a service pistol at graduation, and I think it's the standard M9.

Perhaps there's a Marine officer on here who can chime in with an answer. I don't know for sure.

No problem. Since I have a 4-year degree, I'm able to go straight to Officer Candidates School where I will be evaluated for my potential to lead Marines. If I have what it takes, I am offered a commission as an officer, and then I move on to The Basic School where I will actually be trained to be an officer.

For OCS, I need to show up ready to train from the start. I have never been to boot camp, but my understanding is that more time is spent there on getting the recruits into shape than there is for the candidates at OCS.

Congratulations! I wish I had thought ahead as far as you did when I went. Wish you the best of luck, Semper Fi!!

    Thanks!

One of the many, many reasons I decided to do this was that I absolutely did NOT want to be too old to join and always wish I had at least tried it. I've got a coworker who is now toying around with the idea of some sort of military service, but he's 2 years older and married with 2 kids. It's a lot tougher for him to do something like this than it is for me because I don't have the same obligations he has.

I just got awesome news today! I was selected for the USMC Officer Candidate Course 209! It starts on 20 January 2012, so I've got just about 2 months to go. Yes, I'm extremely excited, with a hint of nervous!

I have a blog where I post all my updates on my quest to become a Marine pilot. If you're interested, you can check it out and subscribe to all my updates. Here's a link to today's post about being selected.

My Life as a Marine Pilot: Selected!

I'll try to remember to post updates on INGO, too, as time goes on. But the best way to keep up is to subscribe to the blog directly.

    Anyway... WOOOHOOO!!!

    :rockwoot: :rockwoot: :rockwoot: :rockwoot:

    Congrats! Thanks for serving!
