Handgun hunting advice, stories, experience, etc.

When I go squirrel hunting with my boss he always brings his Ruger 22/45 handgun but uses it mostly for kill shots if it's not dead after using his rifle. I believe he also uses a .357 handgun for deer but has gotten one in close enough to make a good shot.

      Tech Sights for squirrel hunting

Finally got to test the sights last weekend. I really enjoyed them and can't wait for squirrel/rabbit hunting to start now. Got to practice more while standing but at least now they are sighted in. Still a little worried about hunting in early morning since it was a tad bit hard to see top of...

      Ammo shortage letting up?

My friend went to Rural King in Columbus yesterday and they apparently told him they get .22LR almost everyday. Don't know why that store would get it a lot but other stores rarely get any in. I just got my first 22 last year so don't really know what a good price for .22LR ammo even is.

      Get Your Ammo Here!

The Outdoorsman in greenwood had some 22lr target ammo. Think it was Winchester ammo but it was $6 for 50 rounds.

Why does everyone love the Remington 870 so much?

The only reason I bought the 870 over the 500 was because it was on sale for the same price as 500. My buddy I hunt with a lot has the 500 and it seems to rattle a lot. I don't know if that's because he tosses it on the ground(empty) or it came that way. Otherwise I think both are great guns...

      ARE THE SNAKES OUT YET??

      Tech Sights for squirrel hunting

That's what I was thinking singlesix. But then again they can't be worse then the factory sights in low light.

      Tech Sights for squirrel hunting

Thanks for all the information everyone! Definitely will be getting these, now just have to decide on whether to get the TSR100 or TSR200. ScouT6a, I was thinking about getting a scope but haven't had much practice shooting so thought it would be best to get good with iron sights before I move...

      Tech Sights for squirrel hunting

Was thinking of making my first upgrade to my Ruger 10/22 and everywhere I look people seem to really like Tech sights. Since I only use my guns for hunting was wondering if anyone had any experience using Tech sights for squirrel hunting?

      Get Your Ammo Here!

Gander Mountain in greenwood had around 30 boxes or more of Federal .22lr 50 rounds for $2.49. Went there late Sunday so might still be some there Monday.

      Johnson County waterfowl hunting places?

Anyone have any land I could hunt waterfowl on Sugar Creek in or around Johnson County. Also looking for ponds or fields near them. I've been hunting for about 2 years and the only spots I have are ones that I need to go with a friend to hunt. They don't like to hunt as often as I do so I'm...

      My first Duck!

Got my first duck ever today. I've never seen a wood duck until now and I have to say it's a great looking bird. Going back tomorrow for more hopefully.

      Novembeard 2013... Who's in?

I'm in but I wouldn't call what I can grow a beard. It's more like a short patchy mess. Usually don't shave it from the beginning of waterfowl early season to the end of waterfowl late season.

      The Walking Dead.

As long as Glenn and Maggie survive I don't care what happens this season.

      Who's ready for some waterfowlin'?

Can't wait!!! I've been ready since early season ended. I'm lacking in spots this year but hopefully will get lucky in the couple I do have.

      Atterbury Squirrel hunting

There is a DNR office on Co Rd 800 S that you have to check in at. Its close by the military entrance across the street. If you walk up to the main door there are check-in cards on the left by the pop machines before you go inside which you have to fill out plus fill out the sign in sheet. After...

Any Tricks to Finding .22lr anyone?

When I need .22lr ammo I just call around and ask everyday in the morning. Gander Mountain in Greenwood usually has some for a couple days after they get a shipment. Honey Creek Tackle in Bargersville will reserve ammo for you if they have it in stock when you call.
