Was looking at a pair of 5.11 pants, and noticed a heavy webbing strap across one of the pocket openings. On the feature tag they called it a tactical strap I think with no other mention what its for.

I checked out the product page on their website, and although you can see it in pictures, the strap isnt even listed in the features.

Anyone own a pair and know what its designed for?

Its for Hooking on climbing gear.

5.11 = climbing term used for rating difficulty of climb--

5.0-5.7: Easy for experienced climbers; where most novices begin.
5.8-5.9: Where most weekend climbers become comfortable; employs the specific skills of rock climbing, such as jamming, liebacks, and mantels.
5.10: A dedicated weekend climber might attain this level.
5.11-5.15: The realm of true experts; demands much training and natural ability and, often, repeated working of a route.

Tactical guys make fun of others wearing tactical pants, so I don't don't wear them...
Cargo pants look like tactical pants, so I don't wear those...
    How do these knickers look?

Not gonna make fun of tacticool trousers...
    ...not gonna do it...
    ...just not...

    :):

I like them for match duty... I've worn the same couple pairs for several years... department brand cargo pants only lasted a few matches before tears/rips/holes in pockets, etc. I like the little front pocket for my barney mag!

I use them for projects around the house, too... the tactical strap has come in handy for holding things like squares, rulers, etc while on a ladder...

I even have the soft knee pad inserts. those worked well back when I shot idpa. Most recently, used them while putting in 800+ sq.ft. of flooring down.

I'm down for some knickers if:

Can I get them with ACU pattern fabric?
Are the knee buckles made of low sound generating abs plastic?
Will the belt loops be large enough for a gun belt to fit though?
