IMHO the " fat " look of the action mandates a 30mm scope tube. My 3.5-10x is a 1 inch. 30mm vx3HD 3.5-10x firedot would look better on it.
I've got 3 different size scopes on mine. 1" zeiss on my original 30-06, a 30 mm vortex on one of the 300's and a 34mm arken on the other one

The PH's are quirky rifles but I like them. I had a .30-06 and a .308 as well at one time before trimming down to the .25-06.
Same boat. Now that I have a .308 win, the .30-06 seems redundant.
If my .308 proves a good shooter w testing, bye bye .30-06 Steyr.
Hate to get rid of it, but heck, it's only been to the range twice (each time to zero a scope).
If...........IF..........it goes bye bye, it'll be to get a hot steppin' .25 cal bolt rig.
Yup, shoulda just got a .25-06 like you did LOL

I have your rifle's Hungarian cousin. It was built in 1915 and cut down into a Carbine in the late 1930s.

The straight pull bolt is really smooth and fun the shoot.

I bought several hundred rounds of Nazi marked 8x56r ammo for it about 10 years ago.

I used to have an M95 carbine but I wound up selling it. For some reason, Lee said they couldn't make a trim die for 8x56R, which made no sense to me, since they made a full length sizing die for it.

Just to be clear, the rifle in my pics is a GEW 88 (7.92x57).

Here's my only Steyr. A K98k made under German occupation from parts manufactured at Gusen Concentration Camp in 1944. Matching numbers.

You are right. My bad. I thought I saw a full length Steyr M95. I should have known better by the date.

I've got the 2 300's and my 30-06. If i come by a 7mm08 and or a 22-250 I'd pick those up then I'd have pretty much the whole spectrum covered lol
