Display Cartrige Board of Inert Rounds

MTM makes a cartridge display board:

    Cartridge Display Board by MTM

The cartridges are held in place by clips that slip thru the back of the board. They are held firmly in place. The clips then stick out the back of the board and are supposed to be cut off. But once you do that you will not be able to slide the clip anymore and thus not be able to remove the cartridges, should you want to polish them or change them out. I don't have mine finished yet but I will mount a board behind the hangers on the cartridge board so it will stick out from the wall about an inch. I am mounting it this way because I like the bright shinny cartridges and want to be able to remove them once in a while to polish them. I bought a piece of plexiglass and mounted on the front with a piano hinge on top. Be aware, each section is just a little over four inches tall, so a 50 BMG cartridge for example will not fit. My display is of all inert cartridges. So that I could ID them I took a picture of the board and labeled everything on the image. Then printed the image out for a reference. Note: I was still arranging the cartridges so they are not all setting perfectly straight in this photo. Rest assured they will set perfectly straight when you tighten them in place with the clips.

    Good sources for inert cartridges:

On eBay seller marichann, his listings are for bullet key-chains. You just ask for primed "Dummy Cartridge/Inert" (same price) instead of key-chains and he will combine shipping. The cartridge comes complete with an inert primer so that the cartridge looks 100% but is completely inert. He has I think, a couple of hundred cartridges in three separate listings. They come already highly polished. He was a great guy to deal with and will help you put a collection together.

Another good source. This guy will sell you individual cartridges or sets. They have no primer and the primer pocket is drilled out so that they can not be loaded. The case also has a small hole drilled in it. It would be hard to mistake these for live rounds.

    Dummy ammunition

This was what I wanted just for display. Inert cartridges are not what a lot of people want. Most collect actual live rounds. But I wanted something to use as a reference for popular rounds I like. To each his own.

Rimiden Take a look and drool... I do. I have about half of these aquired over many years. There are several pictured on here that would bring in excess of 20-30K each if any were ever sold. Specifically the 58 Schubarath and 58 gallagher and gladding to name 2 that would bring that price...

Great info on displaying the rounds and ammunition sources guys. Thank you.
I was talking with a friend today and mentioned the cartridge collection and he went and dug out a couple for me. A .22 Winchester Automatic (and showed me the Winchester model 1903 rifle to shoot them) and a 11x60 mm Mauser (.43 Mauser) round.

Also, any way to get ones and twos of ammo shipped without a hazmat fee?
There is no extra fee for loded ammunition. I does have to be marker "ORM D small arms cartridges" though and can only be shipped FedEx or UPS. Cannot go through the regulat mail at all.

How are you organizing your collection? I've got a collection of about 70 rounds, half of them different varieties of 8mm and .303 British, and I've been trying to find an affordable way to display them.

BogWalker, at this point there is no display yet. They are all in an vintage cigar box. Like you, trying to figure out a display method that would allow for expansion. Classic example is yesterday and adding sixteen rounds to the collection.

I don't see any .17 calibers mentioned. I would be glad to provide one or two each of three different .17s if you find yourself near the south side of Indy. .17 HM2. 17 HMR. .17 Fireball.
