So, have a Walther PK380 right now for the wife but very interested in the Beretta 84f. Like the frame and build of the Berettas but really like the low recoil of the PK380. Any ideas? I know the 84F is more expensive but I like the larger mag for a 380 of 13 rounds compared to 8 of the PK380. Input would be much appreciated. Thanks!

For a larger capacity .380, consider the Bersa Thunder Plus or CZ83. Surplus CZ83's (yes, 83's in .380) have been on the market recently for around $265 or so.

I've had a couple 84Fs, Browning BDAs and CZ83s over the years and liked em all. The Beretta and Browning were very nice pistols and pretty to look at but the CZ seemed to shoot a bit better for me. The BDA is an 84F with a closed slide built for Browning btw. .

I bought my wife a PK380 and she loves it. It fit her hand well and she likes plinking with it. I've also thought about the CZ 83. Cheap gun, high quality, good gun. Don't think she'd like it because its heavier and "all metal thingy". I may get the CZ just to add it to my small collection.

I've been lusting over a CZ 75 but the 9mm is holding me up. I hate 9mm's.

Sorry to revamp this thread, but I'm looking at said guns again. Still have the pk380 but looking at the browning bda or beretta 84f. The intended purpose would be concealed carry/ self defense.

The Browning/Beretta is a nice gun. Much better built then the Walther PK380. All of them are good shooters and yes I like them. But for concealed carry they are big for size of the cartridge. Unless recoil is an issue you might be better served with a midsized 9mm.

Hoping to keep calibers consolidated. Got out of 9mm when I sold my Beretta 92. Much prefer .40 or .380 for personal defense. I like these two guns because of the large magazine size for a smaller gun and they both seem to be built really well. Some of them seem to be listed pretty high though. I know the Beretta 84 is only about $550 MSRP, but I have seen people listing them for around $800-$900. I know they don't make them anymore, but still seems overpriced. But I do love my Beretta 96 so I'm thinking I would like the 84f as well.

I own the Beretta 84. An excellent gun - accurate, fun, handsome. This may be too much gun for some women - never really understood the "cheetah" nickname. It is plenty of gun for most.

My wife's first choice for a handgun, when we were first married 10 years ago, was a Beretta 84 in .380! A year later, we traded it for her first Glock, a 26 in 9mm. To this day...we both wish we'd of sucked it up and kept the Beretta!

    I would suggest instead:

    Bersa Thunder CC

    or

Sig P238 with Hogue grip and mag extension (some versions come w/ these as factory standard)

My biggest qualms with Beretta are high cost and weak warranty length. A used CZ obviously comes with no warranty, OTOH, but with a super low entry cost. The CZ 83 is pretty hefty and large for CC for a lot of woman.
