    From the story:

Jim Lilley, Merrillville's chief of detectives, said it's uncertain why Simpson-Beaver was shot during the robbery because she complied with the demands for money.

Umm...because sometimes they really DO want more than just the money, no matter how many "good witnesses" think otherwise.

I'm not about to put my life (or anyone else's) in the hands of a person who is threatening our lives in the hope that they will not really do what they say. Armed robbers & other violent criminals aren't typically known for their benevolence or altruism.

Why was a single Clerk working in the store? The owners of this store should have given up some profit to have more that one Clerk and had an armed security person in the store.

Why do you want to impose more regluations on the store owner? The clerk was free to work elsewhere if she wanted to. The owner of the store is free to run his biz as he sees fit. It's not for you or me or the government to decides how the owner should run his biz. He makes money, he makes money. He fails to make money he goes out of biz. Simple as that.

Early article states that store clerk talked back to the gunman and did not want to hand over the money. This is probably what pissed the gunman off in that she was "fighting him" and he figured I'll show you and thus shot her. :xmad:

BTW here is a pic of the shooter.

& if that is not all the local .gov is not letting a tragety go to waste.
The town is looking for a property tax increase to help fund/pay for more officers.
Deadly robbery fuels push in M'ville for more police funding

Yup cause that is going to help alright. :faint:

Good that they got him, heard it on the radio this morning when I was leaving work.

They said they caught him in a little over 48 hours...not bad.

Also said the son of the victim is coming home today and will be having a police escort from the airport to home I guess

He started walking toward the exit, but stopped and fired a shot at Simpson-Beaver, 48, of Merrillville, documents state. Police said he walked behind the store counter and fired another round at Simpson-Beaver's head.

So much for those who teach and promote that once the thug is walking away he is no longer a danger and cannot be shot at. If he is in the same neighborhood, and he has a gun, he is a danger.

The law is very clear... you must have prior knowledge or reasonable expectations to act upon if you want to base your self defense upon what you "think" the thug is going to do. I would advise everyone to post this article up above their desk, or to at least bookmark it. If you ever wind up shooting a fleeing felon in the back you can point to it and say, my reasonable expectations, based upon a prior knowledge of the way some felons act, was that my life was still in great danger and I had to take steps to protect myself.

Then again, I am not a lawyer.

Quote from the comedian Ron White.

" I’m from Texas. In Texas we have the death penalty and we USE IT! That’s right… if you come to Texas and kill somebody, we kill you back. That’s our policy.
They’re trying to push a bill right now in the Texas legislature that’ll speed up the process of execution in heinous crimes where there are more than three credible eye witnesses. If more than three people saw you do what you did, you don’t sit on death row for fifteen years, you go straight to the front of the line.
Other states are trying to abolish the death penalty. My state is putting in an express lane."

Read it again. The shooter's name is Jeremy Blue. The guy taking the plea was named Donvell Edwards, they offered him the plea so they could get the actual shooter.

I remember this one clearly. I drive past that store occasionally and always think of the lady killed there. This was an especially cold blooded killing. Hope he stays in prison for the rest of his life.

FTFY, Putting him in prison just means we (taxpayers) are paying for him living while the store clerk continues to be dead.
