Have you ever been the victim of an armed/aggressive robber or assailant?
    icon5.gif

Have you had your wallet stolen? Been demanded to empty a cash register? Been in the wrong place at the wrong time and witness a robbery?
    Share your stories. :ingo:

    Poll is private.

I would say attempted/failed robberies should still be included in the poll, under which ever category it fits best.

NOTE: This doesn't really pertain to "burglars." This is for physical robberies where a robber demands something from somebody else, threatening violence or using violence. Try this other thread for things like that: INGO Poll: Ever had an intruder in your house/property?

In Early 2007 I was at my house asleep. At about 12:30 my wife wakes me up because she heard something bang on the back door. I got up, grabbed a flashlight (to find out it had dead batteries), put some pants on (forgot the shoes) and poked my head out the bedroom door.

Its a small house so I can see the back door from my bedroom door. I could see a shadow and my dog was growling at the back door. I ran back to the bedroom, told the wife to call 911 and I grabbed the gun from on top TV ( I kept it out of the safe while sleeping, hidden) Ran back to the back door, opened it just enough for the dog to get out. He took off after the guy and I slammed the door shut. I heard the dog barking around one side of the house so I took off running for the front of the house.

The idiot was stupid enough to run past my house in front of it. Because of this I was able to get somewhat close to him and yelled for him to stop. After a few houses of chasing he did. I had gun in hand and told him to sit down with hands on head. At this time I hear tires quickly rounding a turn and headlights. I can see it is my brothers father-in-law that lives on the other side of the neighborhood. Turns out my wife called him before 911. He was up so he jumped in his F250 with is .45 and came haulin’ through the neighborhood.

Few minutes later the police show up, 3 cars. Its now a little before 1 Am, there has been yelling in the streets, tires screeching, and now police lights, all the neighbors are out.

My bros FIL said he saw a dark 4 door Taurus leaving quickly out one entrance of the neighborhood. A few neighbors said they saw Black Taurus earlier that day driving around.

Cops end up finding the Taurus in another neighborhood later that night stealing stuff from people.

    All-in-all 2minors and 2 18yr olds went to jail.

This was all before I found this sight and took training classes of any kind. I did several things wrong in the above event. At least I had a gun to protect myself and family, I put on pants, and I had the doors locked.

When I was 18 I worked at a gas station, the swing shift. On one of my midnight shifts, I think it was Monday night, around 2am my coworker went outside to empty and dump all the garbage cans. So I'm sitting there and it's just dead, no customers for about an hour. This 1992 white Buick Century pulls up to the door, the guys shuuts the car off and walks inside. He walks around looking at snacks and drinks for a while, then starts with small talk (which wasn't unusual at all, always had people coming in and talking for 30 minutes almost every time I worked the night shift).

He's there about 15 minutes, just talking about everything under the sun. Then he starts talking about how he was at the boat and lost all his money and his wife Latasha was gonna kill him because he just got paid. He needed some money to go back to the boat and get his money back, then he would pay me back. So then he says he's leaving and asks for a bag. I say sure no problem, give him the bag. Then he says fill it up with the money, I say "Uh, no!" and laugh because it sounded like a joke. He smiles and chuckles turns to leave, walks toward the door then turns and comes behind the counter.

He pulls out a gun, I step back and sit on the safe and keep the door of it closed(it wasn't locked because thats where we kept change and singles, there was probably about $500 bucks in there). He can't figure out how to open the registers and tells me to open them up. I comply, then return to the safe and quietly close the door and keep it closed with my feet. He then tells me to get the money form the other register and put it in the bag, I say No, you want the money work for it(I was young and very pee'd off). He turns towards me gives me a dirty look, and continues filling the bag with money. When he finishes filling the bag he turns towards me, I thought he was going to hit me in the head with the pistol or shot me. Instead he pulled the phone cord from the wall and walked out.

I get on the pump speakers to tell my co-worker to get inside, we were jsut robbed. He runs in and I tell him stay here I have to go to the backroom and call the cops, and tell him don't touch anything. On the phone with 911 I tell the operator that if the police look out of their window he should be driving by the police station on Calumet Ave in about 5 minutes, and he was heading towards Cline Ave to go to the Majestic Star Casino. When the cop shows up, he says we got the guy, I need you to come with me, to identify him. He tells me they got him on the entrance ramp to Cline Ave.

Long story short they got him and I didn't get shot or hurt, but when your in that situation you never know how it will turn out. Because unless your armed it's not up to you, its up to the bad guy.

Twice about a year a part (back in the early 80's) when I worked for Wendy's. Both time with multiple robbers with multiple guns. Not a fun night either time. :draw:

near Bedford on a whole lot of land.
I was 14 years old on my paper route collecting from my customers. Some guy (white, maybe 19-20ish) started following me. I was getting nervous and went around the corner of a house, spotted a bottle and smashed it holding the neck. A minute later he came around the corner, saw me holding the broken bottle, muttered something about just wanting to scare me a bit and took off. I started carrying a blade bigger than a pocketknife after that, have rarely been without an external weapon since then.

One attempt to 'mug' me, that failed.

Also, I was once mistaken as a narcotics officer while repairing a damaged line. A voice from an abandon house kept threatening, "Get away from there, narc. I've got a bead on ya, narc." Finished the work and nothing came of it.

    I voted "other".

In college, I was riding in the front passenger seat in a vehicle and we had the rear passenger window smashed in at a stop sign by a thug who wished us harm.He did a good job and I got a minor glass bath. There were a couple of other thugs with him who were also pounding out the tail lights and denting the doors. Thankfully it was not my car. :D

It was the proverbial "wrong place at the wrong time"...we called the cops but of course by the time they got there, the thugs were gone and nobody in the houses on that corner around knew anything. That event was actually my inspiration for getting my first firearm.

I was fourteen living in the Bronx and walking around with about 5 "friends". We got ambushed by a much larger group of kids our own age. My friends took off and left me standing there. (I was too stupid to run.... I thought the plan was to stay & fight.)
I got knocked around & had my wallet & some money taken. I also got a new set of friends.

One failed mugging when I was 19 in Mississippi. I got away after being run up to from behind and hit in the back of the head.

One successful one in Thailand. Two men came up to me on either side. One put a knife right at my pucker hole and told me "your money or I stab you there" I gave them my wallet and they took off running. I kept my money in my pocket. They got my ID and and some pictures. Still scary as all get out.

    Almost mugged, maybe...

I was in downtown Indy right after they opened the big downtown mall.
I was leaving an eatery close to the glass dome that goes over Washington street at 1:00 or so in the morning. I was heading to my car parked up the road, when a scruffy looking fellow comes out of nowhere and says "Hey, got a light buddy?" I say no, I dont smoke, and he follows me saying "Where can a fellow get a drink around here?" I say I am not from around here and I dont know, I keep him in sight though.

A few days earlier, I had read an article that some muggers try to get close to their victim by acting friendly, and that came to mind when the fellow kept coming closer. He was about 12 feet from me at the time.

I turned to face him, pointed a finger at him and said BACK OFF!, while I casually reached for the Officers .45 I was wearing SOB with my right hand. He went Pale and held up his hands saying "I just wanted a drink or smoke!" , before he turned and fled.

It seems to me that my action of reaching SOB was what got him scared away, and if he didnt have nefarious plans, that subtle action wouldnt have brought such a reaction from him.

Needless to say, I didnt have to actually draw down on him. I wont pull a piece to scare someone, If I pull it, I will use it. Funny thing is, it was the first time I carried ...:rockwoot:and I was glad I did.
