So let me rephrase my question.

What would be everyone's suggestion for a 1911 for around $700-800, that is decent at that price and is reliable?

Here is my favorite, Springfield MC Operator, dressed for nightstand duty with a M6X, and Wilson Combat Mags, they are the best there is IMO (the mags that is).

For this price range you can't beat the Ruger SR1911 it is loaded with features

I have a Springfield stainless, and it's been a super good pistol. Like it alot!
Also, this may sound nuts, but I have a couple norinco 1911's that I bought long ago.
They are extremely well made. The steel used is hard as hell.

I have a Rock Island Tactical, comes with decent sights, beavertail, etc..., been a very good gun, shoots any ammo out of any magazine. They can be had for $400ish if you shop around, and you'll have a few $ to spend on ammo.

My choice for that would be a Kimber Custom II in your price range.

As far as my favorite 1911 is my Kimber TLE Custom II

What I would love to own would be a Colt 1911 from WWI or a 1911a1 from WWII
