I will agree about Portillos. Beef Sandwiches, Pasta, hot dogs, burgers all great eating.

The only drawback is the "No Firearms" stickers on the lower part of the entrance doors, and the amount of criminal pictures from the 30's around the place.(Capone, Dillinger, etc) You can't change history, it is décor, but the "No Firearms" thing doesn't entice me indoors. I do the drive thru.

Yes I have carried concealed and ate there in the past. Not a word from anybody. Never was made either. Won't knock employees, they work there.

Langels in Downtown Highland(on Highway Ave) is a great place too. Crumbled sausage and cheese my favorite pizza. Sandwiches also very good. Parking can get a little hinky, but not too bad.

Only Firearms range around is Blythes in Valpo(on Calumet Ave.) Little costly, you need your own "eyes and ears" protection. They redid the ventilation system some years ago(was really dated from the 80's), so I guess it is better. Busy with shooters on weekends. They have waiting chairs like a Dr's office.

I would take a ride to Michigan City and check out the Lake near the Zoo. Zoo is prolly closed, Washington Park is cool to drive around, walk a bit. Free.

Dunes State Park is cool, but they charge you at the gate. If going, grab a lunch near Chesterton, and if weather is good, have it at a picnic shelter. I saw trash cans, but usually haul out what I bring in.

    Good luck. Enjoy Da Region.

My wife and I cant afford a real vacation, lol, so we are spending a couple days in Northern Indiana. We are staying in Merrilville, and will be probably hitting the Casinos in Hammond and/or Michigan City.

Any suggestions on great restaurants, particularly ones that have a good Breaded Pork Tenderloin?
    Any other suggestions appreciated, thanks!

Are you going to share an AAR?
