This stage is dedicated to Coach..
Who hated Gratuitous Movement in stages. He would beat my ass if he saw this in a match.

A version of this stage was ran at 2022 CO Nationals. Same concept, it is a standards type of stage testing freestyle, strong and weak hand but with the added twist of movement.

Actually, Coach and I had discussions about classifier stages for many years. Several of the 18 series classifiers were designed by him and I. The two from 22 series Righty tighty and lefty loosey are examples of stages we discussed.
22-06 is actually the original version of 18-07 that was his design, but just with IPSC targets. 18-07 was changed to add a popper and a reload from his original stage, he was not happy when he got to Nationals that year.

The first match I did as the Section Coordinator and MD was the ”Shoot to Thrill” Match.
All stage names were AC/DC Songs. The match was at SilverCreek back when they had all kinds of different stage props that were from the local theater.
I couldn’t find the original stage designs to recycle any but I remember something similar to this from watching old videos.
Funny story, two guys show up to shoot the match dressed up like Angus and Brain Jones.. half way through the match Coach comes up ask me if I have seen them and wondering what was going on. I informed him that they were dressed up like AC/DC..
He can back a little later and asked why..

The Make My Day Match could probably be remembered best because it was the one that got “flooded” out. The creek that runs behind the Atlanta Conservation Club flooded the range after an overnight rain dumped 5-6 inches of water.
We had started set up that Monday.
I had an appointment that Tuesday morning and got the call from Coach who was at the range, “Hey, we have a little water in the bays”

The first sections I ever shot were at Warsaw. I believe the first was Blue Brothers theme. And the next was the Blazing Saddles match. A few of us were just talking about these matches yesterday. You guys put on quite the show.

2011 saw the Indiana Section match move to Warsaw. The “He Rode a Blazing Saddle” match….
If you were there, then you have your own stories to tell. If you weren’t, then your life is just a little less fulfilled.

Let’s hear what you remember from this “event”, whether it is from the range, from the party at the hotel, the costume contest…

For some reason the thing I remember most was either you or Coach explaining the Laurel and Hearty handshake start position.

What was the year after Blazing Saddles, I could be misremembering but I thought that one had a theme too. That one was at Warsaw too, yes?

I'll leave this G version here but you need to see the move to see how this rehearsal "shakes" out later

11 years ago today was the next Indiana Section, “Live Freestyle or Die Hard”
The word was out “The Indiana crew was putting on some high round count, fast and challenging stages”
The designing of stages would start usually over a couple cases of beer and with some horribly drawn “concepts” on paper at Coach’s.
On the ground it was a well oiled machine for set up… only a few discussions would take place.. usually resulting in 45 minute long “conversations” on where to put a popper. Didn’t matter it was going to get moved the next day anyway.
2011 saw 284 competitors, the “Die Hard” match had 303. The section match had grown to one of the biggest sections in the country.

    Watch all the fun here
