So, the plastic license will, for the foreseeable future, be optional and the paper version is not going away?

Not quite. Starting with the applications filed online Oct 1 on the new system, ALL those applicants will get plastic cards from this point forward. Those with paper permission slips may continue to carry them as they will not go away just because the plastics ones were released. And if you want a replacement plastic card you can request one for $20.

So, the plastic license will, for the foreseeable future, be optional and the paper version is not going away?

That's the way it looks to me. On the page linked above it says "The new hard plastic license card is optional. Your current paper license remains valid until the expiration date shown on the existing license."

I think I'll get the plastic card for durability in the wallet and put my paper cards away in the safe.

I think someone mentioned it up-stream.... Why bother? We don't even need to carry it, so why make it from plastic? There really isn't a reason to even issue the paper. Unless you want a keep-sake.

As has been posted, traveling in another state.

Another possibility, is some Casinos require you to show it to them when checking a firearm.

did that too. the shape of the ccw is just an odd size and not the same as DLs and CCs. i've got it close even with lamination but to have one that has same dimensions as everything else would only make things easier

Copying machine with a resizing feature.

I tried to find my application and it says no results found when I put my info in, noticed that they will run a background check when you get a duplicate license

My wife got fingerprinted and paid local fees yesterday (9/30). It'll be interesting to see whether she gets a paper or plastic LTCH.

The lady at the local PD said we should get it in 8-10 weeks, which seems pretty long considering the quick turnarounds we've been hearing about lately. I guess we'll wait and see.

Wouldn't work for me. Tried to get a duplicate but it asked for sign-in info that supposedly you got when you did your orig application. I entered my license info to get the password and it said no records found. Oh well, I tried.

After I entered my license info in to search for my original application, it let me setup a password. I was able to use the application number and the new password I setup to login and request a duplicate card.

I got through it. It threw a bunch of errors at every step. I needed to reload-resubmit the information. :wallbash: I had to change my address, as my 60 days was running out. It looks like all the info was updated. The payment portion was the smoothest, go figure.

Most any .gov website is a PITA to get running. Too many odd databases to interface with, too many odd spikes in traffic, too many cross-purpose regulations to be untangled. This in addition to the normal launch-day pains with a large webportal deployment like this.

Tried 3 more....nothing but error messages after I input my new address and try to "next".

Same here. I imagine this change is flooding the system. Keep getting this:

A system exception has occurred and any data modified has not been saved. Sorry for the inconvenience but you will need to retry or resume at a later time. Our support staff will receive a notification for review.
