Eight Years Ago, Bush Declared 'Mission Accomplished' in Iraq

    May 1st, 2003

That article you linked is complete trash. Obama declared the war over? Lies. Bush declared "Mission accomplished" in 2003? Lies.

I sincerely hope this was supposed to be purple. ill give you the benefit of the doubt on that one, but if you meant it intentionally, I have some rather nasty words to send your way. I have several close friends that never made it back from there w/in the last "couple of years"

Agreed. I can't see how this wasn't supposed to be a joke... Most likely referencing Bush's "Mission Accomplished" speech. Of course if it wasn't he will probably get his ass handed to him.

Just curious but when did we go to war with Iraq? War requires a vote in congress does it not?

Article one section 8 of the constitution.

Then again section 8 also states only congress can coin and regulate the value of money(now the job of the private Federal Reserve bank).

How about the United States occupation of Iraq is over?

For real dude? You're better than that.

I'll give you a chance to re-cant with the truth before I post it.
I'm not sure what the controversy is. This was the first thing that came to my mind, previous disappointments. Bush said the mission was accomplished in 2003 and here we are, nearly 2012, and still trying to leave.

I didn't think they were saying anything that wasn't already known. :dunno:

    Bush's Mission Accomplished Speech - May 1, 2003

Obama Declares an End to Combat Mission in Iraq - Aug. 31, 2010

"Official end" to the Iraq War - Dec. 15, 2011

    Troops return home - ???

    Contractors removed - ??????

Here are a few nice quotes from H.J. 114 final bill.
    http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-107hjres114enr/pdf/BILLS-107hjres114enr.pdf

Whereas members of al Qaida, an organization bearing responsibility
for attacks on the United States, its citizens, and interests,
including the attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, are
    known to be in Iraq.
Whereas the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 (Public Law 105–338)
expressed the sense of Congress that it should be the policy
of the United States to support efforts to remove from power
the current Iraqi regime and promote the emergence of a democratic
    government to replace that regime.

No where in H.J. 114 did we actually declare war.For good reason(United Nations treaties).

Instead you get an implied declaration of war.
    WAR POWERS RESOLUTION REQUIREMENTS.—
    (1) SPECIFIC STATUTORY AUTHORIZATION.—Consistent with
section 8(a)(1) of the War Powers Resolution, the Congress
declares that this section is intended to constitute specific statutory
authorization within the meaning of section 5(b) of the
    War Powers Resolution.

The United States has been in 5 declared wars since it was founded.
    1.1812
    2.Mexican-American
    3.Spanish-American
    4.World war 1
    5.World war 2

We have however been in 125 undeclared wars, where congress has approved of the funding, just as in Iraq.

There are 2 Caveats to this blurp of yours...
1.) The Constitution does not specify a Format for Congress to approve/issue a Formal Declaration of War...
    - H. J. Res. 114 is the Congressional Approval for the POTUS and the US Military to conduct Operations.
2.) Iraq IS an APPROVED WAR...
    - See the above...
    - Undeclared Wars in Our Past would be;
    - Nicaragua in 1927
    - Philippine-American War from 1898-1903
    - Korea 1950
    - NATO Bombing Campaign of Yugoslavia in 1999

That banner was for the carrier completing a 10 month float. Not for the war. No one ever said "mission accomplished," but that is how the speech is labeled.

That speech did mark a turning point in how the war was being fought. After defeating Iraq's conventional forces and removing those in power, the war shifted to a Jihad, and political insurgency.

Obama did declare an end to "combat missions," but "security missions" were still in full swing, and will be for the foreseeable future.

In reality, it's still people shooting at each other, but defined differently for the purposes of long term strategy, tactics, and policy.
