    I try to be open minded about most things, but just about everything that Obummer does is contrary to what I would want or choose to do. He seems to be nearly a perfect opposite of me. I still have trouble understanding why he would insult the British by giving them back a bust of Winston Churchill. I know that the British were probably the biggest colonialists this world has ever seen and that the bammer seems to really dislike those countries and that the Great Britain is now a second rate country, but still the insult was not necessary. Neither was Michelle Obummer's gaffe of touching the queen or giving the prime minister a bunch of old western movies. It had to be a planned insult as the bammer and his socialist buddies could not be that stupid----or maybe they could. Anyone ever see his grade transcripts. His recently released birth certificate did not seem to change many minds from what I have been reading.

    Actually according to many it's the sole reason for Trumps decline in the polls. So the diehard birthers maybe not a difference but to those with a passing interest the issue has been put to rest.

    Common is not a "gangsta rapper" and rap was conceived from poetry, which many of the purists of the art-form continue to embrace. To answer your question, YES, it is poetry. Why would it not be considered poetry?

    I'm not sure when Common became controversial, but I'm sure it was at the point he was invited to the White House. As for the poem, I'm having trouble understanding what was said that is not said on INGO, EVERY DAY! “Tell the law my Uzi weighs a ton … I hold up a peace sign but I carry a gun.” What does this mean to you? The reason this is controversial is because it includes the famous "assault" weapon of the 80's and a man saying he carries a "gun". If you have a problem with this, it would seem you agree with the anti-gun agenda the President embraces.

    Maybe some believe the "controversial" rapper is actually a cop-killer or supports those who are? I doubt that since Common is one of the most upstanding individuals in his industry. Besides, most rappers aren't talking about killing the good cops, but only those who terrorize them in their neighborhoods. Purple added for those who need it. However, isn't this the sentiment that is read in most threads about the police?

    He is very talented and yes, is not a gangster rapper. You sir.. have sir have covered all the basis! Perfect Post +1

    What's the difference between gansta rap and country?
    Hounds = Pits
    Pickups = Escalades
    Shotgun = Mac 10
    Cheatin' Hearts = Bishes/hoes
    trailer parks = projects
    The Law = Po po
    PBR = Cristal
    "Earl had to Die" = "Poppin' caps on busters"
    :dunno:

    I love hip hop and country (not a fan of gangsta or twangy stuff)

    I was going to post something, then I decided to put on some nice music, and completely forgot what I was going to say! Don't you just hate when that happens?

    Now playing: Eric Clapton - I Shot the Sheriff

    Hilarious! Even though that is a song Slowhand all but stole from a Rastafarian.

    As Que pointed out, but I felt the need to reemphisize, Common is NOT a gangster rapper. Maybe when he was a teenager first getting started he was a bit rebelious and who of us weren't. That clip is old as well. I'm a big fan, his music is mostly about loving women and enjoying life. As well as communicating social injustice, corruption of power and the need for revolution. I can't see what's not commendable about that.:twocents:

    Just like when he hears that whistle blowin... he hangs his head and cries...... remorse... that's the difference between cash and the rappers I grew up listening to. (Dre, Snoop, 2Pac, Biggie, 2short etc....)

    He was crying because he was in jail, not because he had remorse. I could be wrong but that's always the way I understood it.:draw:
