A buddy of mine was our county CO from age 23 until he retired a couple of years ago...His first issue gun (a GP 100) locked up so bad they had to send the weapon LOADED back to Ruger as the cylinder would not even come out....When he got the gun back a very small seed had gotten into the mechanism and locked it up...He said he has no idea how long he was carrying it with it being unable to function...He had no idea how many arrests he had made with it being unable to function...Ruger sent the tiny seed back with the gun and he still has that little seed to this day as a reminder to how small the difference between coming home or not coming home can be...

This was back in the 80's and at that time CO's maybe had to qualify once a year IIRC and he had no idea how long his Ruger had been a boat anchor instead of a defensive tool....

THIS is WHY you CLEAN, inspect, and SHOOT your duty, carry and back up weapons.......

So it's a day later, no follow up pics, no further details, and the only information we have is what was originally provided.

I'm going to repeat what I said on S&W forum.

I'm calling bull****, even from costa himself, until I see pictures of the barrels.

There is no way you are going to maintain that kind of accuracy at 21 feet/ 7 yards when your crown/barrel is coming apart.

The amount of "shotgunning" shown on those targets, would mean a significant amount of metal lost from the crown/barrel. You would have massive amounts of flyers and keyholing.

Looking at the pic again, it looks remarkably like bullet jacket disintegration. I have seen that type of fragmentation with Berry's Plated bullets. Also with Tula bi-metal jacket too.

The Tula sliced through a IPSC target like that. Thin cuts and at angles.

Just by looking at the targets in the link, I have to wonder if the author received a few pictures via email, and a short explaination of what was happening from a third party. Costa was short on time and just had to crank out a filler story.

Either he was duped or pranked.

All those slits in the target, lol wut.
