Have carried 1911s for years in leather thumb break owb Gould&Goodrich and Galco. Never had mag release issues.

Holster somehow creasing up in that area and hitting mag release?

No, it's actually in good shape.
I really can't figure out how I am hitting the mag release.
It actually sits just under the edge of the holster, so the holster is acting as a transfer bar of sorts.
Hopefully an alternative design will be better.

I think you must have an issue with the mag release on the gun. I have never had that issue with any of my guns or holsters. I had a Kimber that the safety would knock off too easy.
I have 3 different 1911's that all do the same thing.
    I don't think it's a problem with the gun(s).

I'm pretty boney around the hips, so no extra padding.
I have to figure out something.
I really like carrying a 1911 but I can't seem to find a solution for this issue, and that bothers me.

I had your exact problem , tried kydex first and all the holsters I tried just were uncomfortable after a couple hours rubbing against my hips even with an undershirt.

Try either a Versa Max 2 or Criterion from Milt Sparks they are by far the most comfortable holsters I have used and more or less tailored to the 1911. Not cheap but worth it.

(They are one of the only stocking dealers for Milt Sparks, if you order direct expect a 6 month wait).

I carried a Dan Wesson VBOB in one for years before I switched to a 2011.

Nice try, but it wouldn't work.
I have been told I resemble uncle Si, from Duck Dynasty.
    I think he resembles me...
I'm sure McDonald's could help your boney problem with 3 meals a day for a few months if you can stand McDonald's for a week congratulation.

I'm an Arby's guy but don't have one locally as in within 5 or so miles. So I stop by Arby's whenever I go to a bigger town. Them 1/2lb sandwiches are good.

A HUGE thank you to one and all who suggested 1791 Gun leather.
Received in the mail today and I can see already that this will solve my problem.

My Bianchi holster is incredibly comfortable but the leather actually just covers the mag release on my 1911.

The new 1791 holster is cut just below the release button. It is actually close enough that it looks like it might even shield the release!
Not only that but the 1791 is gorgeous!
The material and workmanship is obviously top quality.

    I could not be happier!

    Thanks again Ingo.

I highly recommend Tucker Gun Leather holsters. I have had one for 12 plus years and it still looks good, holds my 1911's up close, tight and manages the weight well.

I use a Galco Avenger for both my 5" and Officer's ACP. I also have kydex from Contact!Concealment for both pistols, both work well and made here in LaPorte County
