    Hooray, another rebuilding year!

It is the expectation in the NFL, that players who are capable come in and contribute immediately, especially on defense. That doesn`t mean that they won`t further develop, and get better, but at the least, that they can come in and play today. They`ll make some mistakes in the heat of battle, but you should see improvement right away on defense even in the short-term.

When they let the team slip so far down the tubes yes, it takes a while to build it back up.
They'd have slipped further down the tubes if they didn't have one of the most promising young QB's in the NFL. If they can't keep him from being sacked every 3rd play, they won't even have him.

Agreed. The O Line came a long way this year under Philbin. He took a little and made it respectable by the end of the year.
Now, they just need to get Luck to get rid of the ball and get down on the ground.
Look at both Mannings, Rogers, and Brady. When it's time to get down they're down and covered up.
No sense in getting hammered if you don't need to.

If the Colts aren't not only IN the playoffs, but competitive in the playoffs, it will be time for Pagano to go.

In today's NFL, "rebuilds" are a one-year project. Even a marginally competent defense would have been enough for the Colts last year. The AFC was phenomenally weak.

The article says that Locke will have no other duties besides punting. I wonder who'll hold the ball for Adam Vinatieri? I see that as important for the success of field goals and extra point attempts.

    From the article:

"Like McAfee, Locke was the holder in Minnesota.

The kickoff part of Locke’s duties would be the only additional thing he will be expected to take on with the Colts."

That would mean that he is going to do the punting and be the holder, just like he was with the Vikings, as well as now doing kickoffs too.

Thanks. I must have missed that part. It makes perfect sense.

Just don't get freaked out. As far back as when he had surgery, Luck was anticipated to miss training camp - and, therefore likely, most/all of preseason.
