OK, as I just stated in another thread, I'm done with the whining and not doing anything about it!

I don't know how much of this works, but I know I have a computer, a laser printer, and 26,000+ "like-minded" compatriots on this site.

I know that there are some on the site that have experience working on the state and local government; I call on them now to begin helping me organize something to get our message out there, and get our local areas and our state to recognize that we are a powerful force who will not lay down while our rights are stripped from us!

Kirk Freemen; could you please start posting up some more info on the ISPRA, what we can do to further it's cause, and how we can work together to get some common goals?

Bill Of Rights; You are bar none the best one for keeping track of all the legislature comings and goings here in IN... we need to not only track it, we need to influence it more than has been done in the past... I need help learning how to do this... I'm not the most educated individual on the forum, and it's been a long time since my government classes in HS.. I need help figuring out how to get ideas presented to lawmakers so that we can get them to the floor for readings and votes.

Everyone else; It's time to put your money where your mouth is. Let's actually do something to further our common causes. I know we all have different opinions on just about everything, but we are all gun owners, and I'm fairly sure that none of us want to lose that right! We need to all work together to be able to further our cause, be able to take back our rights, work towards a more unified front; to realize that just because you don't have any EBR's doesn't mean that the rest of us don't, and that it doesn't mean that since you don't have any it won't affect you... **** runs down hill... eventually it will affect you!

    LETS FINALLY DO THIS!!!

You are doing the right thing:

    1. Join up. Join gun rights organization(s) of your choice. Politicans may not be the sharpest tools but they can count. Join up.

If you have any questions about joining the ISRPA, please contact me.

    2. Write, e-mail and call your representatives.

    3. Above all have others join you. Be a good representative for your cause.

    4. Send a check to NRA-ILA. They are the biggest piece on the board. They need money to do things.

    1) Joined NRA, GOA, and NAGR in the last 2 weeks... planning on the ISPRA Once I'm back from vacation.

    2) Been working at it... need to get the phone calls going.

    3) That's where I'm going to have problems... I'm not a leader, I try and make sure I represent our causes as well as I can, but I am unapologetic considering my choice to KBA. I am always as kind and courteous as I can be; but I won't be a door mat either. Hence not the best spokesperson!

    4) I'll be doing that soon as well. Looking into their getting involved locally links.

No. I'm interested. Like you eluded to yourself, I'm not a front-guy. I have lots of good intentions, but I'm reluctant to get "involved". I'm willing to help but I'm a better tactical person than strategic.

LOL, I understand... I just have gotten to the point that I can't stand to wait anymore... sick of all the whining and everyone ripping each others choices apart and not supporting each other... I don't care to lead, but if I have to I will lead at least the local arm of getting us organized.

    Good for you!

For some time, I've been thinking I'd like to get more involved but like I said, for one reason or another, I just never get a round to it.:D

I appreciate your energy and subscribed to watch, learn, and possibly help out.

I'd rep you, but I'm out for the day.

We just keep putting out the fires, here and there.
The whole point of the socialists is to trash the Consititution. The 2nd Admendment be damned. We're falling for their trap. Focusing our attention on the details while they lull the populace into socialism.

I hate to say this, but this is a losing battle.
    It gets worse.

I don't plan on focusing only on the Second, I just figure once we start to solidify the second, the rest will be easier to fight for!

Not to call you out Mackey, but this is the exact type of negativism that keeps us all divided and unorganized!

I am with you japartridge. Just along with you not real sure how to do it. I have joined the NRA. Never heard of the Indiana one until just now. Along with you I have no idea how to get something of this nature organized. If I could we would have already been marching on D.C. People want to put down your idea's while they have none of their own. Out of 26,000 members we certainly have somebody who could take the lead here.

    LETS FINALLY DO THIS!!!

You've gotten some good advice so far. Thank you for the compliment!
You asked how I keep track of legislative changes: I spend a lot of time during the legislative session at their website. They post the bills that have been introduced (First Reading) on the site. Then it's a matter of following the ones in which we have interest and reporting what you see. As you said, we have 26K+ members... Fire them up! Get them writing and either praising or condemning stuff coming through the process. If you see a legislator who just really doesn't "get it", you organize letters to him. (Ideally, you'd organize someone to meet him, take him to lunch, and talk about stuff to straighten him out, but that costs money and time and I personally have neither to spare on him.)
When a bill is put for First Reading, it's assigned to a committee. Write to the committee chairperson and ask that the bill be put on the schedule to be heard. Write similarly to the committee members.
OK, so it goes on the committee schedule. What next? If you can, go to Indy that day and time. Volunteer your testimony. You will stand in front of the committee members and give them a couple of minutes of your thoughts and information on the subject. Others will also. They then vote, up or down (or to amend and THEN up or down) and the bill then can, in the case of an "up", go to the full chamber (House or Senate) to be heard one day (on Second Reading) where it can be discussed and possibly amended and then Third Reading when it gets a vote. If it makes it this full distance, it gets a sponsor or two in the other chamber and the process starts all over again, but this time, if it makes it all the way through, it goes to the heads of each house, (Speaker of the House and President of the Senate) and finally to the Governor's desk.
At each stage, letters get written... The chairman of the committee, the committee members, the Speaker, the President (or President pro tempore) of the Senate (or both!), the governor. After it passes, letters to them of thanks are appreciated.
During this process, if you can be there to see them and talk with them, I imagine it would have a larger effect than just to write letters. Again, though, we have that whole money thing. You can, however, go sit in the committee meetings; their locations and times are public knowledge and they're not closed-door that I've ever seen. Some of them are broadcast on the net, too, so you can see what's being said; you cannot contradict it from there, however, and that can be most frustrating. Sessions of the legislature are also broadcast, and those can be MOST informative. You get to see what your rep is actually doing, sometimes, and what idiots some of them are (and, to be fair, how good some others are.)
Now... I've not given you any real specifics. If you want to wade in, I warn you, this way lies madness. :) Look over their website and get familiar with it: in.gov/legislative . If you want specifics of what's where and the like, and don't find it, write and ask, I'll be happy to help.
The primary thing I think we need is a lobbyist; someone to go and schmooze with the guys holding the jobs. Someone to take them to lunch and spend time on this stuff. Such a person would need paid, as would his/her expenses (like the lunches) and that gets into some serious cash. If EVERY INGO member put up $3, that would make a $52K salary and an extra $26K for expenses, but realistically, you're not going to get everyone to do so. Conversely, not everyone will limit it to $3, either. In addition, not everyone will agree with the choice of lobbyist, nor do I know if trudging this route would run afoul of any laws in re: in what type of speech we could then engage.

Ideally, we would do well to fill the legislature with pro-2A people; This, I think, is a pipe dream, but da**it, it's MY pipe dream! :P

I hope this has been helpful.

Good luck with it, and if I can be of further assistance, please do write.

    Blessings,
    Bill

In all fairness to the excellent work that BoR does keeping INGO advised, the fight will not be in Indianapolis, but Washington D.C.

    Hence not the best spokesperson!

Does not matter. You can serve your cause by talking to friends and family.

Get involved, just because you are not on the tip of the spear does not mean you are not in the fight.

Sadly Kirk, I believe you are spot on.

    BoR, excellent write up :yesway:

How can we best organize or get involved to fight the good fight in Washington?

I believe (at this time) our efforts should be focused there.

OBVIOUSLY you havent been paying attention to whats happening in IN. IN is one of THE MOST free states in the union. We were ranked 5th in economic and personal liberty sometime last year.

We've got it dern good...especailly when you compare us to OH, MI and especially IL.

That being typed, we can NEVER rest. As was mentioned before. Talk, argue, write letters, be active and vocal in your life in real time.

Its not a difficult task to flip an antigunner to a gunner if you use logic and reason. We have ALL the facts and figures on our side...no need to get made, just be calm and lay it out there.

I believe what Mackey meant was the losing battle was on a national level moreso than at the state level.

    I could be wrong though
