I still haven't gotten an answer to my question of the legality of dropping out of a tree and slitting a deer's throat. THAT is fair chase afterall...

I don't know........... but I also want to find out about springing out of a spider hole and stabbing the deer...........

Here, lets watch this instructional video......... oh, some language......

Hunting deer with a spear is legal in some states (like Florida), but not in Indiana. When it's made legal I will TOTALY give it a try. The weight of the spear does all the work - especially from the height of a tree stand - all you have to do is guide it straight. I have a friend in Florida that's taken several deer with a spear.

I'm surprised tomahawks haven't made it into this thread yet.

Oddly/interestingly/nonsensically Texas statutorily places 'hawks with clubs. If I could get a Connecticut ruling here then I could carry a big honkin' Bowie AND a big honkin' tomahawk.* Even open carry them. Except in certain cities. Dang, we need to get the Legislature working on knife AND club AND nuke preemption...

*As strictly written and read by many, there is a provision of the Texas concealed handgun license law that seems to exempt CHL holders who are also legally carrying a handgun form the list of "illegal" weapons, which includes knife blades longer than 5.5", bowie knives, and clubs ('hawks!). And maybe spears, can't remember on that one. Some argue it actually only exempts handguns, much argument on gun boards but no resolution. The only case I know of where someone was arrested for carrying a too-long knife while legally carrying concealed into the State Capitol was dropped by the prosecutor (in the office of the infamous drunken DA) before trial. That person claims this means the law really says what it appears to say, but I think the prosecutor just thought this was a nuisance. I don't think dropping charges sets much of a precedent.

    Where's the bacon?
8 children killed in home in northern Australia - AOL.com

Covered by 2d A? In Oz they'll soon enough right that wrong... (I'm assuming here that all victims were killed with a knife, so it's good they have that gun control thing down under).
I'm not sure guns would have helped this one. The children are dead and the mom has stab wounds to the chest. My first thought on reading this story was post-partum depression. No one has said that, it's just my first impression. but in any event, the gun would not have helped this time if that's what happened. We'll see when it all comes out. I agree with the point you're making if this was an actual criminal attack, however.

    Blessings,
    Bill
