For those times when policing you brass is inconvenient, I want a revolver. I'm thinking .357, probably 4 inch barrel. Maybe $500.00. What are your recommendations.

I am also thinking of a Judge for indoor SD. Comments?

    Cheers,

Taurus has a few good .357 wheel guns in your price range. And S&W makes a few good ones, too. Hard to go wrong with a .357 wheelgun. Lots to enjoy there.

I'd have to say look at the Ruger GP 100. Awesome gun and built like a tank.

The first one to suggest the Ruger GP100, Andy219 is obviously a man wise beyond his years, listen to him.

Seriously the GP100 is a tank that will go longer than the energizer bunny. Really it is the best .357 revolver out there. And you can do whatever you want to it. It is so customizeable. If you want fiber sights, lots of people make them, if you want different grips, tons of companies make those too. There is even a few companies that make do it yourself trigger jobs for them.

Go buy one and enjoy. And remember, it's not just a gun, it's a Ruger.

oh and women love the Ruger GP100

Depending on your hand size and what you find comfortable, I would have no hesitation recommending a Redhawk, 686, SP101, GP100, 627, or Model 27. The Redhawk and the Model 27 might run a little around or a bit over 500 but the others should be easily had on that budget.

As others have stated... Ruger. GP100 or SP101, or a Security Six (if looking into the older used market). Awesome wheel guns.

The only guns I regret trading off are all Ruger wheel guns.

    SMITH & WESSON 686

    This.

    Any K-frame Smith!!!

And this. (only I would add with it, any L-frame as well)

A 4" 686 is the revolver the GP100 hopes to be when it grows up. Don't get lost in the "built like tank" propaganda of Ruger. Yes, they are built like tanks, they handle like tanks and the trigger pull is akin to pulling a tank with your finger.

    You'll never wear out a 686.

I bought a used 686-5 last year for just that purpose and within that price. Spent some xtra time in the man cave polishing it up. Handles a wide range of ammo and never throws your 7 empty brass in the mud/sno. Nice big beefy American handgun.

I recommend pre lock smiths. the 686 is a tank. but I'm underwhellmed by .357. look at a .45 revolver, then you get factory set up for moon clips and you pick up 6 pieces of brass at one.

if you go .357 the k frames are nice, but I recommend a stainless gun for durability (65 or 66).

I hate ruger for a number of reasons. but the GP100 3" wiley clapp is an awesome package

BTW women lover their SMith and wesson performance center guns as well

If you want the ultimate 686, the ssr is the way to go. Interchangeable front sight, chamfered cylinder, trigger stop, forged hammer/trigger and it looks great to boot! I recently put a sdm FO in green on mine- oh so sweet.

I've had two model 19's and one 686. They are hard to beat and fun to shoot. They are pretty easy to master. The 686 I have has never been fired. I want to real bad but it's an anniversary model and has only been test fired at the factory.
