I received a notice in the mail the other day informing me that my Utah handgun license is about to expire. Really? Has it been 5 years already?
    Yes, yes it has.
O.k. I'm thinking, it looks like there's a possibility that we may see constitutional carry soon, so do I really need to lay out those funds?

The initial license was $75 for 5 years.
I opened the notice, and to my surprise, the renewal fee is all of $15!
    Well, just a bit more.

They supplied an application for renewal that asks for the following records to accompany it, a copy of a current handgun license issued by my state of residence (with expiration date clearly legible), a "passport quality photo", and the $15 fee.
    That was it.

Now the wait begins for the new document.
I don't know what made me think it would be more difficult/expensive.

Probably because you're used to being someplace that, for all its advantages, still has a state beaurocracy that seems to take a perverse pleasure in making every interaction with them difficult and expensive.

    Outside the coup
We got our Utah several years ago for Ohio. Not due for a renewal for a couple more but plan on keeping it. The inexpensive and easy renewal is one of the things that drew us to the Utah instead of others such as Florida. Once you have it I see no reason not to keep it.
