When I was 13 I got my first handgun as a Christmas gift. This was not like the other guns my brother and I shared that were really Dad's but instead this one was mine and mine alone. Ruger Blackhawk .45 with both Colt and ACP cylinders. My brother got a Bearcat. Still own and shoot that pistol today over 40 years later.
hey sticky,
I can't believe you got a Hi Standard for a first gun. How lucky can you get? Those are pistolas that have collectible written all over them. Wow, most of us don't get quite that lucky. Still got it? Get any other Hi Standards afterwards?

I had done some shooting in the late '70s, but did not get around to buying my first handgun until 2008. It was a Springfield Mil-Spec 1911. I put north of 2500 rounds through it in the first year and have been hooked on 1911s ever since.
My first handgun was a chrome plated, top break, 6" Iver Johnson revolver in 38 S&W that an uncle gave me when I was about 14. It had some timing issues and eventually, a broken hammer spring. First handgun that I bought for myself came along two years later with the purchase of a Government Model 1911.
S&W .38 snubby paid 125.00 for it a month after my 21st birthday right after i got my carry permit approved fit nicely in either my front or back pocket. i did have an H&R i think it was .22 revolver before that but it was more my dad's than mine the .38 was truly mine bought and paid for with my sweat
