They are doing what they do best... nothing effectively.

Numbers show that since 2002 Heroin exports from Afghanistan are up 80%.

Add this to the long list of failures the DEA has under it's belt.

The question is legitimate. Another question would be how can such an extra Constitutional agency even exist in a Constitutional Republic?

I think the dea is doing thier job just as they are told to. The problem is what they are told to do is different from from what they tell us they are supposed to do.

Better question: why do voters continue to allow such administrations and agencies to exist?

Because they're mostly mindless sheep who suffer from the "all politicians are bad except my guy" syndrome.

Are they protecting the poppy fields?

Or just trying to expand their "mission" to get a funding increase.

if their mission is to train, not direct action, how is it their fault exports are up?

You saw them all geared up and doing raids... or did you bother to even read/view the OP's post before you commented.

Also, I'd say it's failure of the US Military as well... How can exports continue to increase if they are watching the borders to catch terrorists and bin laden (prior to the raid)? It's not like exports weren't steadily increasing under bush too. Where are you going to place the blame?

After we taught the taliban a lessen, it was time to get out.

    That's another topic though.

The military won't win any hearts and minds if they start busting locals for drugs.

The afghans are one step away from eating dirt, heroin and pot put food on the table. If you take away their only source of income, you probably won't make a lot of friends.

If a mexican official showed up at my door to arrest me because I broke an arms law of Mexico I would fight with force. I would imagine the people of a-stan are the same way about non existent drug laws in their own country and a foreign power enforcing.

    This! :yesway:

I can only imagine Americans' outrage if foreigners imposed martial law on us.

Our own government though... that's another story.
