”No Firearm” signs in Indiana have no force of law unless they are posted on property that is specifically mentioned in State Law as being off limits to those with a Permit/License to Carry. If you are in a place not specifically mentioned in the law that is posted and they ask you to leave, you must leave. If you refuse to leave then you are breaking the law and can be charged. Even if the property is not posted and you are ask to leave you must leave. Always be aware of the possibility that responding Police Officers who may have been called without your knowledge and may not know the laws on trespass etc. could arrest you even if you are within the law.

    Specifically listed NO GUN places.

 In or On School Property.
     On A School Bus.
 In or On Property That Is Being Used By a School for a School Function.

I drive a school bus, so I basically have to leave it at home when I do. There's the post office and such, but otherwise, it's on me always. If there's a sign that says "don't", in fact that does not have the force of law in IN. I go in regardless. If someone finds me out and wants me to leave, I'll take my money with me. I don't want a trespass charge, and they can be victims if they want. I had my hand on my .45 this evening when some schmuck came up behind me at the gas station begging. That was north of Castleton, not what you would think of as a bad area. You never know.

Yes you are correct...ive never seen anyone do it....lol
They would be lookin into a barrel if i did :ar15:

And now to continue with your training:

The above statement could (likely?) get you sent to jail.

You do not have the Right or the justification to point a gun at someone (even if you don't use it) just because they are merely trespassing.

You need to look at the laws on the use of force (including deadly force) for IN. Someone simply trespassing on your lawn is no justification to threaten them with death.

The Fort Wayne Chuck E. Cheese has a sign. "No Firearms. Violators will be treated as Trespassers." or something like that. It was kind of funny.

If that is true then I would think that is one of those (very rare) signs which would be interpreted as giving you the required notice per the trespassing law.

The sign’s not only keep responsibly armed citizens like you and I from protecting ourselves, but they let the criminals know that they have a store full of victims when they walk in. It’s no wonder why the bad guys don’t obey the sign too. :)

I won't say if I do or don't but I will say it's totally ridiculous to be required to unload and register your weapon at a gun show of all places.

I'm sure someone will try to paint me a reason why (I really don't care) but you could buy the ammo inside the show and mags, etc. and go on a rampage. I pitty the fool who does such a thing as other attendees are surely armed as well.

This guy :chuck: won't always be there to save the day either.
My post is going way back in this thread, so sorry. BUT I have never been to a gun show where you had to register your gun when you bring it in. You wanta go back and rethink this comment?:dunno:

I carry anywhere not prohibited by state or federal law.

    This +1

To me the "no guns allowed" signs only serve one purpose. To let a potential criminal know they may be able to pull something off here because nobody else should be carrying. That's where he would be wrong.

My feelings exactly. Unfortunately, I was in WI last week where the signs DO carry the force of law.
WI really isn't force of law. It is not a criminal charge, it is a class B forfeiture: The penalty for ignoring a "no weapons sign" is a Class B forfeiture. A class B forfeiture penalty is a fine of up to $1000. A forfeiture is not a criminal conviction. Also a forfeiture does not provide cause to revoke his CCL.

    THIS^

I could not agree more. The signs are only there to prevent HONEST people from carrying guns. If a bad guy wants to carry hes going to carry. Personally i feel the same as many others in this thread, i will carry unless prohibited by law or if i am asked to leave.

I have no reasons to be, in a gov building, church, or school. I see no reason why I can't always have my gun with me.

I would agree that where there are "no guns here" or such type signs posted, we all know who will be carrying them.

Sure, the homicidal criminals will. See? Easy answer.

In my own case, I'm a police officer and have some privileges where others probably do not. Doesn't matter to me, if someone (meaning a lawfully armed citizen) takes out a bad guy presenting a lethal threat to others, there will be no penalty leveled by me. I'll try to get that citizen a trip to Bora Bora and a parade, and a medal.

I'll buy the first round of choice, too. Honest.

A bit off topic perhaps, but one thing I've been wondering about concerning "No Guns" signs...

The first gun shop I ever went into was a great little place up in Marion, IN by the name of McDonald's Guns. There wasn't any "No Guns" sign there. Walking in, there were never any less than 3-5 people OC (working at or patronizing the shop), and I felt like it was the safest place I've ever been. Who's going to bust in there and try to rob the place, right? :draw:

A few years ago, however, I moved down to the Plainfield area. Ever since then, every gun shop I've gone to has a large, clearly posted, "NO LOADED GUNS" sign. The shops may have pro-2nd amendment signs and literature once you get inside, but the no loaded weapons policy always threw me. You're adamant that the right to bear arms should never be infringed - except in your shop? :dunno:

It almost makes me want to take the 2 hour drive up to Marion every time I want to make a firearm purchase. He had great prices, but not necessarily 4 hours out of my day + gas money good. :twocents:

my bank has those signs and i still carry inside

My business bank has a sign. The bank employees know what my business is (a gun shop), and two of the girls husband's frequent my shop. The sign shows a Beretta 92 with a slash through it. I feel bad for the guys who carry Berettas and I think it's unfair when a certain weapon is singled out to not be carried on premisies.

I suggest a wheelgun. Most signs show a picture of a semi auto so as long as you are packing a wheelgun I think you will be okay.:D

That's my defense and I am sticking to it!!!

All kidding aside I think the above posters are correct. Keep it hidden and if called out plead ignorance.

I would have a polite talk with the owner about it and ask why it is ok for him to make his business income off the 2nd amendment but it's not ok for you to have your 2nd amendment rights in his place of business. Then i would hand him a "No Guns = No Money" card and walk out. :twocents:
