I always get a chuckle out of threads that are almost akin to asking "you can choose only one 'do it all' drill bit, what would it be?" The answer depends on a number of factors including what size hole you want to drill, what material you are drilling, how deep you want to drill, do you want a through hole or not, etc, etc, etc. Similar factors apply to gun calibers and I suggest there is no such thing as one "do it all" caliber which is why so many different calibers exist in the first place. The reality of "one size fits all" often ends up being "one size fits none".

Well said! It works on the same principle that you don't go to the golf course with only one club.

mosins are built like brick ****houses. you can make a trigger group for one out of paperclips, the round will do it all, awfully straightforward to clean and operate.

    my vote = 7.62 x 54 or thereabouts.

Exactly right, but that's what makes the question fun =)

Just one caliber? 30.06 with the .308 lagging closely behind. Both can be hand loaded with extremely light to quite heavy weight bullets.

    ^^^^^This^^^^^^^

    Only one bolt action rifle?

For me I will take the 30.06.

Big enough for zombies and meat.

small enough for squirrels.... if you take the head shot....which the 30.06 can do with no problem.
