    New bill would force gun owners to undergo mental health background checks, pay an additional 25% tax on all forms of ammunition, and require firearms categorized as “assault weapons” to be stored outside of their homes at government approved sites.

    Why not? Soldiers living in the barracks have to. IIRC, married soldiers under a certain rank are required to store their guns in the arms room.

    It is a good point that people who volunteer to defend and potentially sacrifice their lives defending the nation are also subjected to reductions in their rights pertaining to life on their own time as a consequence.

    It is still a remarkably scary thought that this is even getting enough attention to be newsworthy.

    Why not? It's infringing on my right to defend myself and my family. I'm no longer on active duty and therefore I am not subject to military rules.

    gov keeps our guns and we have to ask permission to use them at their convenience???
    That's the way it is in a few European countries. You have to store your firearms at the range and can only access them there. Lots of politicians would like to see this implemented. It would make it a lot easier to grab them.

    I am so glad I sold all of my evil black guns to that guy at the flea market last week. That was the best decision I ever made. There now it's on the interweb it must be true.

    Where's our side proposing real common sense gun laws like:

    "Constitutional carry" in all states and territories of the USA-no exceptions for schools, govt buildings, insane asylums...but I'm repeating myself;

    Elimination of all state and federal sales taxes on all guns and ammunition - as these serve as infringements to poor people from RKBA;

    Overturning major pieces of legislation like NFA;

    Etc.

    They are defining the conversation and the parameters of the debate.
